Do it...I did it and it sounds great and added a good bit of power.

You have a problem with o2 sensors or check engine light?

Tampering with working emissions equipment is against the law, just for what it's worth. You may get check engine lights because as far as the 1-2 and 2-2 HEGOs know, the cat isn't doing it's job. Proceed at your own risk.

I took out the rear cats because i was unhappy with the sound of my 2 1/2" mandrel flowmaster cat back system. Ilove it now, everywhere I go people ask me what I have for an exhaust.

What about the O2 Sensors on the cats? Do they not have any? I would assume that there are not O2 sensors on them since people are removing them.

Sound like a plan..

I guess I'll crawl under my truck and see what I can do about removing the rear cats.

Federal government EPA regulates auto emissions. Federal law supercedes any state law and applies to all 50 states and U. S. territories.

That's not totally true. If state emissions laws are stricter than federal requirements then the state law takes precedience. EG california.

Never, ever in Kentucky will you get in trouble with the law for Emmisions standards...

ON th eother hand, muffler shops will not remove your Cats under penalty of law.

gator25,

You are right. The federal EPA regs specify the standards but allow the states to to set a higher standard if they choose. They may not go lower than the federal standard though. I stand corrected.

If you removed all four cats and sensors, how does the PCM get feedback to run in closed-loop? Less than 81% throttle, and the engine up to normal operating temperature, you’re in closed-loop and the PCM is "listening" to the O2 sensors for A/F feedback control.
