05 cd-6 Head unit

I posted this over on the Headunit Forum but I thought I would post here as well in case anyone has any other opinions.

I just talked to a company that does all aftermarket work for a Frod dealership here in OH and he told me that the 05 in-dash 6 disk changers are different thatn the 04's. I know that the one difference between them is that the 04's will not play mp3 and the 05's will. But he told me that if you want to change out a single cd for the 6-disk headunit, they need to reprogram the headunit because the headunit has your vin info on it and will only play in the vehicle with the current vin. He said that because delphi makes the radios now, there has been a lot of headaches to switch out factory headunits. Is this true? I was looking at getting an 04 6-disk for my 05 on e-bay. I don't need the mp3 capability. He thought I would be ok because this new development only has affected the 05 f150's. What do you all think? Thanks.

Why are you switching it out? It's definitely not hurting anything by you having MP3 capability.

Intersting that Delphi is making the units for Ford, and that they also make XM recievers, and that Ford has more/less a contract with Sirius, which has no equipment made by Delphi.

So Why the hell don't they have an adapter yet that will allow Satellite Radios to be run through the AUX button?

Interesting info......

When you disconnect the factory radio and want to reinstall it you have to program the factory code back into it or it will not work.It is supposed to be a theft deterent. That is what the manual said, though I never tried it.

I know this don't help for your 05 radio question, but I haven't seen any codes for the 04 radios. I bought an 04 Audiophile head unit and installed it on my truck, and it worked no problem...no code to enter. But then later since I had no plug to hook up the subwoofer/amp, I took out the Audiophile unit and sold it, and then reinstalled my single CD player, and it works fine, no reprograming or codes...

Thanks everyone for your responses. I found it to be interesting as well that Ford would have delphi add this to the stock radios on the 05's. I have a single cd on my 05 and found an 04 6-disk on ebay that I wanted to install so I was worried about it, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will work. I will let you know once I have it installed. Thanks.

Only thing I heard of different was the 2005 model added MP3 compatibility (not sure if that's only on audiophile though). I'd imagine the rest of it is the same...as far as connections and fit.

Most of the 6 dsic players - including audiophile do NOT play mp3s.

I know I have one - however I have seen some now at the dealer that have an MP3 printed right on the face of the stereo itself - these will play them.

Mine is the 05 6 disk and it has the mp3. I called my dealer asking about a vin lockon it and they said no, it does not have vin lock. they swap em out all the time.

I had a funny feeling that the guy I was talking to wanted to charge me more money for nothing. And to top it off, I was just inquring about the radio itself, not instalation or anything else. I can do that without the cost. I won my cd6 radio on ebay so I will be installing it next week when it gets her. I will post my results. Thanks.

Thats what I want to find to yank out my non MP3 audiophile head unit - someone has got to want a new aftermarket system with a nav and dvd that will sell one of these.

It has to have that MP3 logo on it - or they will not play.
