2005 with Vibration or Steering Nibble

Ive been sort of following the vibration issue since it's surfaced... I dont have the new body style YET but would sure like to get into one.

Are there any 2005 build trucks experiencing the vibration or steering nibble problems? If so, can you post the Build Date of your pickup?

It seems like Ford is incorporating revised parts in the new Builds. Maybe this can help us track which of the trucks are "safe bets" -- but I also wonder if many 05 trucks will have enough mileage on them to determine if they are OK or not.

Thanks!

Hades, 05 screw 4x4 here, built 10/22/04 3200 miles and smooth as glass. Had two 04's both bad. I work at a Ford dealer and we have had NO 05's with the shakes. Buy it, you will love it!

I have a very new 05 Supercrew XLT, built in January of 05 at the KC plant. So far so good, but she only has 500 miles on her so far.

PS - mine came with an aluminum drive shaft, which is a change over the 04's and early production 05's which had the heavier steel driveshaft.

hades...the vibe/nibble issue is not mileage related (OK...I suppose there may be an exception or two), so if y'all drive the truck before purchase (including one that you may factory order) and it doesn't vibrate, you're safe.

I have a 2005 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat. It has the vibration. It's currently in the shop right now as we speak, for the THIRD time. If I recall the build date of my truck was August 2004.

The first time the had my truck all day from 8am to 5pm, put like 50 miles on it and said I would have to bring it back for a roadforce balance. So basically they drove my truck around and didn't do anything.

The second time they roadforce balanced my wheels/tires, rotated the driveshaft 180 degrees. This made the vibration worse at some speeds and better at others. They also managed to put another 80 miles on it. Sounds like alot of joyriding to me.

Then I bought new wheels and tires and had them roadforce balanced and it still shakes the same, so It obviously IS NOT the wheels and tires.

Today I had to take it back for a transmission leak in the torque converter housing and told them the vibe is still there and that rotating the driveshaft helped, but why don't they just replace it because when they mess with it, the vibe changes, so atleast some of it is in the driveshaft. They said the were going to put the electronic vibration analyzer back in it and drive it some more, but since my wheels are aftermarket they can't roadforce balance them. I said for the last time, IT'S NOT THE WHEEL/TIRES, just fix the leaky tranny and check the driveshaft and rearend.

So we will see how it turns out. They said they would probably have to keep it overnight. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

After doing some searching, I am starting to believe that I am one of very few with the 2005's that still vibrates. They can't keep telling me that it's normal, because there are too many people out their with trucks just like mine that don't.

Guess all there is left to do is sit and wait, AGAIN.

I had my 2004 FX4 bought back by the DSB. My 2005 Lariat is smooth as glass. Going on 3,000 miles and no vibes.

As sucky as it is, us 2004 owners were F150 beta testers...I'd hope that Ford would take lessons learned from '04s and apply them to '05s during production, but who knows. There's a lot F150s, '04s and '05s out there that run just fine, but there's a few problem children too. My April '04 2004 Lariat has a steering nibble when it's cold first thing in the mornings, but it goes away after about 3-5 miles.

I agree exactly, at least you have the information presented by this website to make an informed decision. I have only driven one 2005 5.4L Lariat 4x4 that a co worker owns, it is EXACTLY the same as mine except paint color. (there is no accounting for taste).

His does not exhibit any of the vibration problems as mine. I am really kinda jealous. He had the same information that you can obtain from this site from me. He also had one advantage in that he drove mine. :santa:

Hope your experience is a good one, as they really are fantastic trucks.

Quintin,

I had that same short term nibble on cold mornings with my 2004 that the DSB bought bacck. They bought my truck back because of driveline vibration. I figured that my truck had enough issues with the driveline vibration, I didn't even have the dealer address the nibble.

I bought my 05 S-Crew FX4 last Friday and I have this problem.

It had a 4" Rancho lift with 20" rims and tires installed before I bought it. The RS9000X shocks were set at 7 when I drove it. I knew I could adjust them down so I thought it was just the stiff shock setting.

I called my salesman (family friend) and told him I thought the tires were causing the problem. He said he didn't think so and to bring it in. They will take care of it.

Seeing this truck was an impulse buy. I didn't research it first.

Thanks for the info. As always this message board is a wealth of knowledge.

2005 with vibration

I think you're safe with the 2005.
Dummies like me with the 2004 were the guinea pigs and were stuck with our P.O.S. trucks that vibrate.
I drove a 2005 the other day and it was smooth as glass up to 95MPH.
Ford is too cheap to fix the 04's but they did make changes to the 05's.
