Question Speaker Problems?

Has anyone had any speaker problems with their trucks? I can't tell if it's just bad reception or a bad speaker or wiring. But the speaker in my front passenger door seems to get staticy a lot. Usually the louder the radio is. It could be that when a station isn't 100% clear, the static sound is mainly channeled to that speaker. I haven't gotten right next to it yet with a CD blasting yet. Once it gets a tad bit warmer, I'll go out there and test it out. Just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing.

Interesting that you brought this up...

Over the past few days, I've noticed just a tad of static out of my passenger door... it only happens when I have the speakers really pumping (not excessive... just powerful).

I had, kind of, the same plan you have. Wait til the weather gets better and diagnose.

Interesting though...

Yes I've had this problem. It persisted for about 3 months before I replaced the speakers. Haven't had an issue since.

My pass door speaker quit completly. I checked the wiring and it wasn't that. I pulled the factory deck apart and low and behold the solder for that speaker was loose. I resoldered it and voila i have sound again.

You guys should pull your deck out while the tunes are pumpin and wiggle the wiring harness to see if you can recreate the noise. If you can you'll need to get a new deck or do like i did and just solder it.

I also had a rattle in the front passenger speaker. I changed all the speakers to Pionneer, but after installation, the front pass. still had a rattle at higher volumes. I removed the speaker and applied 1/4" weather strip to the back flange of the speaker frame and no more rattle. Even with the Premier head unit set to deliver lots of bass to the doors, it still sounds good.

Yeah...i've noticed what your describing slightly periodic with higher volumes. I'm afraid to turn it up really loud for fear of blowing something out though. Besides...I don't wanna have to keep Clear-Tone in business when I get older.
I hope the speakers are not defecting though ...and decide to go out after the warranty is up. That would really suck. Over all though...everything sounds good on mine.

I have also had recent problems with the front passenger door speaker. It sounds like distortion, rather than static or rattling. I usually hear it when listening to Hannity on my way home after work. I do not have the volume loud at all.

Definitely on the list of things to have checked in the next service visit.

The factory speakers are notoriously crappy. I haven't had a truck yet that I haven't replaced at least the speakers in. As far as I'm concerned, the only good place for the factory speakers is in the trash.

Remember, water drains through the doors and out the bottom drain holes, so the back of the speakers do get moisture on them. Pull the speakers after and good rain or wash and see if that's the problem. I pulled both the stock and my aftermarket speakers and on both the backs of them were wet.
There was a tread long ago about speakers cutting out after rains and washes.

I could not tell exactly what was rattling. With the grey cover popped off the door panel, the rattle was still present. I could not find the source. When I loosened one or more of the screws holding the speaker in, the rattle subsided. I am thinking that maybe the shape of the speaker opening is causing the speaker frame to warp when tightened down. I have found this to cause a rattle sound when a speaker is making long excursions. It can also cause the voice coil to rub the magnet assembly causing intermittent cut-outs, leading to eventual failure. The weather strip on the back of the speaker flange seemed to cure all rattles. If I turn off the HPF and add lots of bass to the doors, other parts of the panels will make noise, but this is a good reason to put in a sub and amp, and run the HPF on the door speakers. If I cut frequencied below 50hz to the doors, there is no problem.

PS - throw away the stock speaker ASAP and get any name brand aftermarkets, You will not believe change this makes.

Install deadener under your speakers, problem solved. I also put some behind the speaker on the inside of the door panel.

dupois

did you just take the front door panels off - or how did you do the dynamat on the front doors?

On the back it would be simple - take the panel off and you just put it on - but the front has the access through the grey cover.

sorry - i've had a hell of time trying to fix the 'rattle' in the front doors...haven't taken the panels off the front doors yet though

i too have the infinity kappas - did you have to modify them to fit into the front door spots also?
