[q]I went to 2 Ford dealers in my area, both said they will not have supplies to fix this issue until middle march.

Anyone else run into this? Sounds kinda crazy to me.[/q]

Nope just called and got the same reply myself. Gonna try a few more dealers and see what happens...

Later,

Luis S

F150s are popular vehicles, parts to repair all affected units may not be in the stream yet. Same reasoning behind 750,000 or so people waiting for cruise deactivator switches and wiring.

The dealer i called today asked me if i had the pads. He said Ford sent them out to people who have pads, as well as the ones who don't have the pads...

Sound correct? I didn't look to see if i had them, just assumed i did since i got the letter.

No, not all vehicles that are under 04B23 will have the butyl pad.

how can you check for this thing. The explanation isn't so clear to me:

"an aluminum-backed butyl pad...[on] the inside surface of the right hand side box outer panel in front of the tail lamp."

can someone translate this into plain english?

thx

I got down on the ground and looked up into the area they were talking about but couldn't see anything. Then I reached up into the space behind the pass. side tailight and I could feel a raised pad about 1/16" thick (towards the outside panel)and by prying up on the edge of the pad with my thumb nail I could tell it was a sticky type rubber pad. Does this help?

Mine's in the shop as we speak getting this very thing taken care of among other minor TSB issues.
Stick your head up in the fender well (if it will fit ) and look up at the far corner of your fender towards the tail lamp. You will see a square pad on the inside of the fender. This is what has to be removed.

And if you should ever have a problem where the paint bubbles or the fender rusts because of that, your corrosion warranty may not be honored because the repair was not completed and documented by a Ford dealership. There's more to the recall than just ripping the pad off and cruising down the road.

Actually,

My dealer told me today they they only have supplies to fix 8 trucks. I've made an appointment for this Friday. I'll be darned if I'm the 9th guy.

I got under my truck yesterday to find the pad. Sure enough there she was. Want me to take a digitial pic for you and post it so you know what to look for???

Good advice. I have already had my entire r/r quarter panel painted once due to having paint bubbles just under the FX4 sticker on the r/r. A few months after that....the bubbles were back, worse than before. I am sure this is all related to this butyl pad. Gotta take her back into the stealership to get repainted one of these days......

Got my truck back today from the pad removal surgery. I sure missed it while it was in the shop. Hopefully there won't be any problems where the pad was located.

I took mine in Monday Morning/21st...got it back today/25th. Geeez....I thought waiting for Summer when I was a kid was long.............................................. ......

They took my pad off though and put the necessary coating on the inside of the box panel. Looks like they did what needed to be done. I also had some other warranty issues taken care of as well as the oil change and tire rotate.
