Hi all
Well this just started today. A very bad vibration throught the whole truck, starting at around 40mph and gets worse the faster I go. I've read about the dredded wheel nibble but this almost knocked the fillings out of my teeth, the wiper blades were banging on the windshield and the headrests were vidrating in the seats. The truck was undriveable.
The next time I drove it 2 hours later it was fine.Later on in the day it did it again, in total 3 times today
Anybody else with similar problems?
Could this be a stuck valve or something in the tranny?or something in the limited slip rear end

Sounds almost exactly like the way my old '88 F150 acted when the tie rod ends disintegrated (at 25K miles). I'd be driving along and it wouldn't take much- a bump in the road or one of those line reflectors and all of a sudden all Hell broke loose. I would have to bring the truck to a complete stop in order to get the shaking to stop, then I could take off again.
Swapped out the tie rod ends for MOOG brand and drove that truck till it had 197K on it, never had another front end problem.
But that was almost 20 years ago and I'm suuuuure that Ford is using better tie rod ends by now.

I use mine often, but lately after releasing it and driving about half a mile my truck has been shaking like crazy wipers bouncing up and down, just a really bad shake. After a few miles it does release and the shaking stops.
If you have a bad vibe, check the ebrake. It could be your cause.
ILL HAVE TO CHECK THAT OUT I WAS ON THE HIWAY AFTER A SNOW STORM THE ROADS WERE CLEAR BUT THE TRUCK WAS CAKED WITH SNOW WELL THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED WOBBLING IT DID GO AWAY SO I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS THROWN OFF BY THE ADDED WEIGHT OF THE SNOW . BUT I TOOK HER OUT THE OTHER DAY NO SNOW CLEAR HIWAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN SO NOW IM WONDERING WHATS GOING ON IM GETTING NEW RIMS NEXT WEEK AND WELL SEE WHAT THAT DOES HOPE IM NOT JOINING THE VIBE TRIBE MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL WITH THOSE PROBLEMS

This is very odd.
I have over 13K on my FX4 (4x4) and the exact same thing happened to me yesterday (three times).
The whole truck shook. It did not seem like the brakes or steering. The first time I thought I had a flat and pulled off the highway to take a look. In fact, I was sure I had a flat as it was the same kind of thumping noise.
I don't think this is the same as the vibration I keep hearing about because the truck was simply undrivable.
The other two times this happened yesterday, I stopped and it was fine after that.
I'll try the ebrake, but are there any other possibilities?

I have had the same problem recently repaired. It appeared to be the e-brake and they replaced the brake release cable. All seemed fine for a while but now the same symptoms are occuring again, I suspect that as others have said it is the brake not releasing. I am going to ask to have the entire mechanism replaced as it seems to be more than just the cable release. When it shakes you sure know it!!!
You guys may very well be onto something. Saturday I came home from the car wash and parked in my driveway on the uphill section that goes around the back of the house. I don't normally park there and I set the ebrake because of the hill. I've been avoiding using it to test the theory that's been suggested here. Well, the next time I drove the truck, the vibration occurred. I've thought back to the 3 other times it's happened and all three times have been in cold weather AND after I've released the ebrake.
snow melting from your truck after driving, then refreezing in the wheel while parked and cooling can throw a tire way out of balance. Certain wheels ford uses are very prone to icing up. Just another possibility that hasn't been mentioned.
thanks for the info inbred thats the common denominator to the start of my wobble after the snow storm. new wheels will be on next week well see if that helps also the guy at discount tire said i may have had a temporary flat spot this is frustrating
I had a similar bone jarring vibration about a month ago. I was traveling around 60 - 65 mph on the interstate while towing my trailer with ATV aboard. When it started shaking, I let off the gas and dropped down about 10 mph for a few seconds then got back up to speed. I did this two or three times and the shake stopped. Total duration was about 30 sec.
I had been on a gravel/partial mud farm road the day before, so I chalked this up to mud on the tires. I had driven about 10 miles before this happened, so I'm not sure the ebrake would have caused this.
This is the first time in the 24k miles I have on the truck, and it hasn't happened since. I'll probably mention it next time I take the truck in for service, just to see what they say.
