Question BFG 285's pressure???

To those of you with 285/70-17 BFG AT KO's on '04-'05 models...

What pressure are you running??

Take pitty if this is an ultra-newby question, but I'm an oversize tire virgin.

I have these tires @ 50# on 17x8 Eagle Alloys, and I'm still trying to find the pressure sweet spot. I called BFG and the nice sounding lady said they didn't have data on the new F150's yet. The tread is contacting evenly at all four corners, but there is a lot of bounce when crossing tracks and taking the oil/chip roads 'round here. I'm no speed demon either.

Or should I be asking a different question?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

These are load range D. My load range C are set to 40. I would say arounf 50 or slightly higher.

Wandell you are right at the minimum for a load range D tire. Here is a link to an article by NHTSA for tire pressures. Page 17 talks about the minimum pressure for activation of tire pressure warning systems. 38 is what would activate the warning on a load range D tire.
After thinking about it 50 was what I had set my BFG load range E tires I had a few years ago. probably with a load range D you may want to be in the 44-46 range and see how they run.

I'm curious...does anyone have the 18"with 285's. I'm thinking of going up to this from 275.

I have a 2wd and have been running Michelin Pilot LTX 275/65 R18 with good results. These tires are about an inch taller than the factory tires and fill the wheel wells of a 2wd much better and don't screw up the gearing too much. Tire Rack had them for $89 a piece and my local shop installed them for $40 for the set.

I will be doing the same. I got 30k on my BFG 275's now. I am starting to look around. However, I still got a good amount of tread left.

I run mine about 36 psi. I've got close to 30,000 miles on them and they're wearing perfectly!

You'll bounce all over the place if you run them at 50. I would only do that if you were hauling a lot of weight, etc...

Yeah, I have over 35,000 with no problems at all. The max pressure listed on the sidewall is for towing and hauling at the maximum range.

fx4scab,
The pictures are in the gallery. They are the best, but I just took them today and the truck looks like crap. Also, my tires say on the side that you can fill to 65 psi, but all of my tires are filled at 52 psi.
