Bilstein Shocks

Anyone installed bilstein shocks on their truck? I installed one and couldn't get the upper control arm back down into the spindle. Took off my auto spring spacer on that side and put everything back together. strange, but now the side with the bilstein is the same height as the other side with the auto spring spacer, any idea why? both are a little over 9 inches from top of tire to fender

Do the new Bilsteins have adjustable preload? Do they come with new coil springs? If neither applies, they must apply more preload to the coils once they are mounted on the shock.

i found out what the problem was. I had taken the strut of and brought it to a shop to get it compressed. When they put it back together, the morons put the bottom spring seat upside down, so the coil was more compressed. Found out when i saw the other side strut. Brought it back, made them fix it, now back to normal. By the way, you don't realize how junk the factory shocks are until you put new ones on.

so you're liking those Bilstiens??
can you describe how they affect the ride on the F150?

I had them on a '91 4-Runner and loved them, but this was with 3" lift and oversized tires, going for wheel travel.
I am curious how they do with the heavier truck, mostly in terms of on-road ride.

Thanks

marshy,

will you describe the ride and drive differences between the bilsteins and the factory shocks? i want bilsteins on my 05 FX4, just looking for a good reason to swap out factory shocks with 8500 miles on them.

My truck has 9500 miles on it. I developed(on bumpy roads) a symptom to the effect that my steering column was loose. Since i added the shocks, the problem has gone away. The ride is so refined, and swaying is reduced greatly on turns. They ran me for all 4 $230.00 I would definently recommend them to anyone.

Do you have any pics of the new shocks, specifically the front coilovers

Where the heck did you get them for $230 for all four? I have only seen them for $230 for the front 2 and another $140 for the rear.

After a little searching, here is the cheapest I have found so far. $260 for all four. http://www.shockwarehouse.com/index.html

I did some searching too. www.eshocks.com $260.00 and free shipping. Don't know if they are the same company, but in my search, many came up with the same web pages even though they were different addresses.
I did end up ordering. I can live with $260 for 4, I just wasn't about to go almost $400. Even for Bilsteins.

Please keep us posted on the ride, my 04 FX4 is the roughest riding truck, the 99 150 I had with michelins puts this truck to shame on the softness of the ride. As far as the way it drives overall there is no comparison in the two.

Is it just me but I feel like there is no road smooth enough for this truck I beleive if I run over so much as a cricket in the road I feel it.
