Brake Dust Brake Dust Brake Dust

How do you all handle brake dust? I wash the truck weekly but a few miles down the road, you see a fillm already building up and by weeks end, the wheel's almost black. A couple of options I was thinking of were changing to the brakes you folks were chatting about a month or so back and or brake dust covers... unless you all could recommend something better.

Well my truck hit 10K miles a while back. I have noticed significantly less brake dust in the past couple of months.

Patience grass hopper. My truck was terrible for the first 1-2 months. After that it got better. By 50% or better. Once you burn the stockers, then switch to the Porterfield Carbon Kevlar.

I second that with the carbon-kevlar or ceramics.

They will eliminate the dust for good. But they are pricey ($90 shipped or so), so you probably can find a decent semi-metallic pad at the local auto parts store now that should be dust free for the most part as well.

The dust covers look pretty tacky IMO, especially if you have the big 5-spoke FX4 or Lariat wheels.

At first my braked was horrible! By the time 20,000 or so KM rolled around it slowed down.

Hi there, How much are the Porterfield Carbon Kevlar pads?
I am planning on making my first pad change and the stock pads at the dealer down here run for $350 USD!!!!

So if you have other brake pad options up there please let me know so that I have more options. I am more concerned about braking power rather than dustless issues. This things are heavy!!!! jejeje

Thanks,

Arturo

I paid around $90 shipped US for them. I got them from this guy who sells on ebay, but also he has his own website. I guess you could try emailing him to see if he would ship them to Mexico for you.

I really like my "Ceramix" brand front pads from NAPA... no dust, no noise, no problems. Cost ~ $110.00

I have always used Wagner® ThermoQuiet brake pads on my past vehichles and have always been pleased with their performance. You can buy them at any O'Reilly Auto Parts, their prices are reasonable depending on your application.
