Installing power fold mirrors on 04 XLT

After two and a half months of effort I have finally successfully had power folding mirrors installed on my 04 XLT

Here's what you need to do the job-

Parts -
1 - 5L3Z - 17682 - AAA Passenger side power fold mirror
1 - 5L3Z - 17683 - AAA Driver side power fold mirror
1 - 3U2Z - 145411 - AJA Pigtail to drivers side mirror
1 - Momentary contact dual pole switch [power lock type]
2 - Relays - Type D aftermarket actuators

Information -
1 - Electrical schematic showing the F150 05 wiring for power fold mirrors
1 - Description of power folding mirror plug wire function and location - C521[BK]

Experts-
1- Qualified installer - mine is a stereo/security system installer. You need someone with electrical and mechanical knowledge.

I had tremendous help from Forum members - they found electrical info, part numbers, part suppliers and provided encouragement.

My installer did not need the Ford relay [5L3Z - 17L684 - AA] or the pigtail for that relay and did not need the Ford switch [5L3Z - 176676 - AA]
He used the pigtail mentioned under Parts above to scavenge four wires that he added to the plug on the drivers side mirror. He used his own relays and switch as he could not get the Ford relay or switch to work. He also connected the puddle lights and the turn signal lights on the mirrors.

Costs - I spent a grand total of $522.62 - $297.62 for parts and $225 for labor. I believe that Ford could offer this as an option for $200 - $300 like GM.

Parts source - A forum member got me in touch with a great parts guy that I highly recommend - Tim Viera at Signature Lincoln Mercury in Las Vegas - phone- 800-876-3280 x233 e-mail tviera@signaturelm.com Tim is great and discounts parts.

That's the deal. E mail if you have questions.

U Da man

Great job Bob! I'm going to contact the electronic tech who installed my remote starter and see if he can do the same for me.

One question: did you have to mount a new separate switch to run the mirrors and puddle lights, or were you able to use the existing mirror adjust "joy stick" switch already mounted on the armrest?

No - the mirror adjustments run off the existing joy stick switch and the puddle lights are triggered by the interior/exterior lights usually activated by the key fob/ door locks.

Questions:

Could you scan and post the "Information"

Also, could you supply a wiring diagram of the custom hookups that your installer made?

Could you give me more details on the switch and relays - how do i order them?

It's really great that you were able to make this work - tired of pulling and pushing those mirrors!

Mahalo!

Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you the "Information" I don't think that it's something that I want to post. I don't have a wiring diagram from my installer. The switch and relays are pretty much off the shelf items that a installer could get for you.
