Lightbulb Problems w/04&05 models

Hey everybody,

I'm looking to buy a new pickup, preferably an '05 fx4 supercab, and was just wondering if anyone has had any major problems arise with their new models. I ask this because my dad bought an '04 Lariat, right as soon as the new models came out, and after a couple of months and a few thousand miles (3k) his transmission began to leak. he took it in to have it fixed and the dealership ordered in a part to fix it, and in the process of looking over the truck the mechanic found that the radiator had cracked all the way around and was amazed that he was even able to drive it to the shop. he demanded and received a brand new lariat and a couple of months after receiving the new truck, the thermostat went out. he's happy with it and i am very impressed with the new models, but kind of wary that if a new truck is having those mechanical problems right off the bat, and if anyone else has encountered them as well it would be nice to know before purchasing.

Any help/info would be a greatly appreciated.

Rob

I've had my '05 for 4 months and 2100 miles. No problems. I'm averaging about 13 mpg city and 17.5 mpg hwy.

Took it out to get into some mud today. First time I've had it in the slop. Mud was only 6" deep, nothing serious, but did not even spin a tire in 4wd. Great traction with the limited slip rear too. Took two hours to get all the mud off which was mostly under the truck.

Thought I'd throw that in there because I'm damn happy with this truck

Even though the mechanical issues are a pain in the ****, thats what the warranty is for. May take Ford a few tries to get it fixed, but they always seem to one way or the other.

Newer 04 Scab 5.4L 3:55 4x4 @ 5000 miles. A solid +16.mpg in the harsh winter in all around driving. No major problems and I'm nit picky. Best truck I've EVER owned and I've had em all, Ford, Dodge & Cheby. I don't include the Imports I've owned as they don't count as real trucks

13 months, 17,000 miles and a few issues.

- the front hub went bad
- front ABS sensor went bad
- had the clutch packs replaced

All fixed under warranty, and a rental car supplied each time.

I really could not be happier with this truck. Just about every new car has some minor issues. As long as its warrantied and your service dept. takes care of you, its really no big deal.

Besides, you get to beat on a free rental car once in a while.
