can someone explain the tire warrenty thing that was just released

what all does this entail ?? i have BFG's on my truck right now and i cant keep air in them to save my life. filled them up last week at 35 psi and tonight they were at 15. its just the back tires also, very weird. since they are alwayse loosing air it is eating up the tread very fast. i have 22,000 on my truck and it looks like they have been driven about 50,000. is this something that is covered by the new warrenty?? whats yalls input on this one??

In a nutshell...

Previously, the "official" tire warranty was 12 months/12,000 miles. This covered balancing, alignments, and replacement due to abnormal tire wear or tire defects.

Now, that basic coverage has been extended to 3 years/36,000 miles for vibration and abnormal tire wear concerns only. For instance, if your tires have excessive road force variation causing a vibration that cannot be remedied by indexing, Ford will replace your tires so long as you're within that 3 year/36,000 mile period. I'm kinda confused myself about how some of it works...for instance, not rotating your tires would cause abnormal wear, but would Ford replace them based on that? I dunno. In your case, however, low air pressure may have contributed to abnormal wear, and a butthead dealer might call you on that, claiming negligence. I need to do some more research about this bulletin to see what all it exactly entails, but I think those are the highlights.

Abnormal Wear...

Can someone explain that?

Why would there be ABNORMAL WEAR?

Why is there a new warranty on the tires? I've never heard of that.

Three of my tires have been replaced already. Not to mention, three drive shafts, new body mounts, transmission mounts, cab mounts, and a shim (somewhere). That stuff didn't make me mad, until I saw where the rear differential cover plate had been removed and GOOP, is oozing from the plate.

love the truck, hate this problem.

Thought the vibe was fixed...Its still there.

that would be good if they replaced them with better tires and not the goodrich again. i put michelin cross terrains on and the nibble went away and the ride improved. i didnt think the ride could get any better but it did. the goodrichs were junk in the rain didnt want to experience them in the snow so i put on the cross terrains. go to tirerack.com and they have a chart that rates the tires and see where the goodrichs are.

The dealer should fix that one for you under this new warranty
thing. Sounds to me like you have a bead problem along the wheel... Put some water in a spray bottle and check into it yourself . I'd go in and explain that replacement is the ONLY option for ya. Good luck ....

I just had my truck in for a bunch of stuff, they used that warranty to replace 2 tires (bfg 18" tires on my lariat 4x4). That helped the nibble that i had (50mph & up)

I think this defers responsibility to the tire manufacturer for additional defects (think Firestone)

exactly, as they will back-charge the tire maker.

Good luck finding a dealer that knows about this. I have called 2 dealers about this and neither one can tell me jack. I have the vibration, uneven treadwear, and what seems to me as fast but not surprising considering the crappy tires I got (Generals). I'm was trying to find some new tires when I got the letter and am about to give up and buy new ones anyway. If you do find a good dealer let me know what they say so maybe I can call my dealer and try to explain it to them.

well i just spent 2 1/2 hours at my dealership for them to tell me that they cant do anything because i don't have service records at there shop stating that i have rotated the tires. they also did not know anything about the letter from ford. wouldn't you think that before any of us get letters the dealerships should get the letters first so they know what there up against when someone comes in talking about this !! They did tell me though that if i come in with the letter and records showing that i have rotated the tires that they "more than likely" can replace my tires. i think this is a crap excuse, even though i always get my tires rotated at a shop what if i didn't and i did it myself, how could they prove that. i hate this kind of ***** why cant someone stand behind there product and realise that after 20,000 miles you should not have tires that without a doubt need to be replaced

I had the same problem with my dealer too. I took it into the shop where i bought it on purpose, figuring they would go a lil further. They tried to screw me, saying i didnt rotate the tires every 6k miles. I took it in before i saw the letter (saw it on here first), then called em and stopped by about it. I told the mechanic about it (technician), and he said he knew about it, and would do the right thing. So instead of charging me for a tire rotation (they did charge me for a 2 wheel alignment), they replaced 2 tires & rotated them anyways. I had uneven wear on the tires (cupping). Supposedly its because of the bfg's soft compound. This also helped the nibble out (now its like 1/10th of what it was before. I have a lariat 4x4 with 18 inch bfgs stock. They also replaced the rear drive shaft under warranty.
