Anbody install headers?

Hey gang,

Just wondering if anyone has installed a set of headers on thier 04-05 5.4 F150 yet. I'm looking for suggestions, experience, or seat of the pants impressions. The JBA units seem to be nice but another guinie pig on this project would be appreciated before dropping $600+ on these.

I've owned this thing since Tuesday the 8th and have installed a level kit, tires and wheels, Magnaflow SI/SO exhaust and an Airaid intake. The power and response has improved but is still not I would call stellar....yaya, I know it's a truck but coming from a modded SD Powerstroke with the 7.3 this thing feels like it won't get out of it's own way and I'm starting to miss ricer kills on the freeway on ramps. I looked at the Hemi Dodge, hell my best buddy owns one and the power is nice, just coudn't bring myself to do it.

I'm getting the impression that the motor is very willing and has responded to the mods so far very well...it seems as if the tranny is what is holding things up....sloppy shifts, gear ratios and the lack of a (gasp) 5 speed..LOL.

I'll be speaking with Troyers this week for a full on tune, just wondering about other mods in the mean time.

By the way, I started this project with decent fuel mileage in mind but come the end of summer(break in permitting), I expect I'll have a SC/Turbo on this thing. Damn the fuel mileage, full speed ahead. Anyone done this mod yet...

One of the trucks the Troyers drive around has JBAs. Someone else around here has them. They say that they are a pain to install. That's all I've heard...Kevin

I just installed the JBA's last weekend on my '04 FX4 and I can tell you first hand they ARE a pain in the butt, especially on a 4x4. They seem to have made a pretty good difference even in the low end, but it could be all in my head as I don't have a dyno to compare and I need something to justify the $550 and all weekend install... The real test will be pulling my trailer and I haven't done that yet.

I really got on here to see if anybody's had problems getting them to seal cause I'm having a hard time.

While I have not looked into JBA's for the F-150 I did have them in my '98 Cobra. Not only were they a pain to install, they also developed leaks about two weeks after putting them on. Also, the design kept me from putting on locking header bolts. I've since gotten rid of them in favor of Ford Racing shorties.

I just read PITA in 6 of 6 posts (100%) with questionable gains for $500-600...sheesh, why bother?
