Towing with an Autospring kit??

I will be towing 4 Harleys behind my fx4 scab with 2" autospring kit next month for Daytona bike week... Has anyone done this yet? I am worried that the back will sit lower than the front when the trailer is hooked on?? I havent had it hooked up yet with all 4 bikes, I dont want to be looking at the stars while I am driving to Florida if ya know what I mean... If it sits high in the front end, I have 2 choices, take the autospring out, or trade it in on the black on black 05 Lariat screw that we have on our lot... Rebates are just not that good right now....

Here’s a viable option you could use.

Ford Firestone Air Bags: Ford 2004-05 F150 & F150 Supercrew 2wd & 4wd - Sport Rite (N0-Drill) rear air helper springs

I have an enclosed trailer with two sport bikes that I will also be towing to Daytona. The trailer has a pretty heavy tongue weight---560lbs. With a 2" Autospring lift, the back of my truck sits 1" lower than the front when the trailer is hooked up. I think how much the rear of the truck sags will depend on how much tongue weight your trailer has.

How much towing do you do? If it's only a once a year thing and the rear sits a little lower, I wouldn't worry about it. If you tow more often, didn't you think about this before you put the Auto Spring spacer in? If it's really a concern, I would just take the spacer out. I can't believe you would consider trading it in and losing you a$$, instead of just taking out the Auto Spring.

O, I wouldnt be losing my a$$ at all... My truck is worth 30k trade at my dealer, plus it only has 6k miles on it... And with a d-plan and 2k rebates I would be right about where I am right now... Except I would have a screw lariat... So how would I be losing my a$$ again?? I also didnt plan on towing 4 bikes to florida when I installed the kit, a chance came up to go for bike week and stay for FREE at a friends house.... And im not an idiot, so I took the offer!! If I have to explain, you would'nt understand.... So go try and rip on someone else there buddy....

Look 'buddy',

I wasn't 'ripping' you. I was questioning your rational of removing the spacers vs. buying a whole new truck. "A plan" on a new '05 supercab FX4 is $30000 so if you can get $30000 for your year old '04 you must be special. Doing a quick lookup on edmunds, the price they give for a truck like yours is somewhere around $21500 trade-in to $23000 private party and dealer retail $26000. Looking on Autotrader, there are numerous '04 4x4 supercabs going for $22k and less. If you can get $30k for your trade-in, take it and run like there's no tomorrow.
Like I said before, if it's a one time thing, who cares if the rear sits a little lower for the trip?

I will be install the autosprings 2.5 Kit hopefully Next weekend and plan on installing rear airbags with the auto leveling kit and compressor. I haul a snowmobile all winter and I think this setup will be awesome. My buddy has the airbags on the rear of his 95 chevy 1/2 ton and LOVES them. His truck used to sag like no tomorrow when is 650lb 4x4 atv was in the bed... no more!

jhartz,

Easy there guy. I was thinking the same thing as Red Wing Nut. Unless you're brother owns the Ford Dealership, then I can't see how you'll get 30K for your used F-150 SCab? As far as the towing situation, you need to find out what your tongue weight is on the trailer you'll be towing. Assuming it's an enclosed trailer that can haul 4 Harley's (I'd hope it was enclosed), I'd bet the tongue weight will be close to 500-650 pounds depending on how the bikes are loaded. With your setup, you'll be sitting lower in the back, but unless it's just a god-awful amount, I wouldn't worry about it. Now, if you want to have the warm-fuzzy about it, buy a helper spring or the air bags mentioned above....

For a comparison here is my truck with daystar 2.5 spacer towing my jeep.

As a third choice to your original question if your concerned about the nose being high, install a load leveling airbag system in the rear like jpdadeo said.

I have the 6" on my truck and tow dirt bikes all the time.

Anyone tried the air bags with a 6" lift?
