2004 F-150 has recently started Stalling
All of you with the stalling problem should file a complaint on the NHTSA website. I had the same problem with my 04 Lariat Screw. It died as I went around a corner one day and almost hit somebody. The problem is pervasive enough that Ford should issue a recall on affected trucks. I had my PCM reflashed, and although I didn't expect that to resolve the problem, to date it has not stalled again. (3 months)

I'm a dealer tech. so the next day ran KOEO & KOER no codes but found a tsb about PCM turning on EVAPVMV and causing a lean stallat idle or coming to a stop. I could feel it just as it was going to stall but couldn't keep it running. Short of the story was a new PCM , 7K and no stalling.

Hay Guys
I took my truck in for the same problem 5 times, 1st they reflashed my PCM, 2nd new throttle body, 3rd new PCM, 4th updated throttle body, 5th reprogram the PCM again and the truck still stalls. I just got me a lawyer and he reviewed my invoices from the dealer and he said that I qualify for lemon law, the law is if you take your car for the same problems up to 4 times in the first 18 months or befor 18,000 miles. I 'll be getting all my money back including down payment and all the payment that I made in the last 7 months. The best part is that you don't pay the lawyer fees ford will end up paying them. Make sure that you keep all your invoices that’s the most important thing and make sure that when ever you take the truck back to the dealer for the stalling problem they write the same problem on the invoice STALLING. You don't need to tell the dealer anything just GO TO A LAWYER. I take my truck to Star Ford in Glendale, CA for service, last time the service manager told me that he is going to call me in 2 days to see what he can do to help me out, It’s been almost 2 weeks and no call. Please pass this on to other guys that are having the stalling problem.

EVAPVMV=Evaportive Emission Vapor Management Valve
I just looked online with the Ford dealer site and it must've been a SSM because it's no longer there, Ford has a habit of taking done SSMs after a while. If I can remember I'll pull my file and get the SSM# and post it here. Your dealer will have to call hotline to get the SSM now that they took it down.
The EVAPVMV open to let fuel vapors to be burnt under the right conditions. If opened at Idle or decel ut will cause a lean stall.
I hope this helped.

Today's Update...
I received a call today from my service rep. It's my understanding a Ford Engineer was at their dealership today. He was there for another vehicle, but he was able to look at mine as well. He states the PCM is fine and will NOT be swapped out. He states replacing the throttle body will correct the issue. I guess the throttle body will be replaced in the morning and I should have the truck by 1:00. It figures a Ford rep comes in and doesn't want the EXPENSIVE PCM replaced. Maybe he knows what he's doing? I just want the truck back. I want a 100% running truck back. My wife keeps reminding me her 98 Expedition with 95,000 miles on has never been in for a single problem. Other than tires and oil changes the vehicle has been perfect.... quick, where is some wood to knock on? It has the 4.6 and it's been awesome. Anyway, I love my new 04 F-150.... I just hope this throttle body is the solution.
Thanks,
Rich
Shoot... I guess I'm lucky I didn't go with that aftermarket throttle body or Ford wouldn't be trying to fix my problem right now.
I was surprised the Engineer didn't say anything about the TrueFlow Cold Air Intake, Magnaflow exhaust system, 35" tires, lift kit etc etc etc......
Thanks,
Rich

I wouldn't be suprised to find out that the PCM is less then the throttle body. The PCM replacement was build date related.
The FSE has a list of contacts that is unreal, he is going to start
with what has repaired the most concerns first. They will fix your truck please be patient, if he cann't get it fixed they will by it back.
This has always be my experience, good luck.

Just got...
I just got the truck back. I drove it home with no stalls. All they did was replaced the throttle body. It was a 20 minute drive home with lots of stops and no stalls. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I spoke to the Engineer and he stated he's had this stalling problem on 4 vehicles in the area. Replacing the throttle body fixed all 4 of them.
I'll drive it for a few days and post an update.

Update
Ok so I'm starting to get pissed at my dealer. My truck has been stalling DAILY for the last week plus. I take it to my dealer and they say that they can't replicate the stall. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but the weather has been about 10+ degrees warmer than usual the last few days.
However, if my truck is stalling. Shouldn't it throw some code that they can read? I've almost gotten in a few accidents because of this stall issue and they don't seem willing to help.
Any ideas? thoughts? I can't keep driving my family around in my truck while it keeps stalling on me. This is BS.

OK NEW update. Got it back from the Dealer today after 3 days. So far so good. They had to hook up some box that recorded everything and they caught the hard code while it stalled finally. They had given up and on the way back to the shop it did it.
They replaced the MAF Sensor last time which did NOTHING and now this time they replaced TPS ?? Some Fuel Sensor the guy said and it seems to be good. Did my usual routine and no stalling or even a sign of stalling.
Hope this was the fix. Also got my Butyl Patch thingy fixed.
Didn't get a letter in the mail but they fixed it while they had it.
I'm now a happy ford customer again.

sacramentojoe
sacramentojoe, did they ever replace the throttle body? Again I had an actual Ford Engineer look at my truck and he stated there was 4 other stalling 04's in the area and replacing the throttle body fixed all 4 of them. I haven't had any problems since the throttle body was replaced. If the problem comes back... I suggest you take it to Future Ford. They are aware of the stalling issues and should fix it the first trip in.
Good Luck!!

Thanks for the info Rich. So far so good. Looks like the Throttle Position Sensor was the culprit.
Is Future Ford mod friendly? Harrold Ford doesn't care that I have intake or throttle body spacer. They tried to say that sometimes aftermarket air filters (ie K&N) cause these types of issues but they didn't come out and blame it on them.

I think
I think most dealers are mod friendly. They realize there is a HUGE market for aftermarkets parts. If the part doesn't cause the problem... there shouldn't be a problem. I would say "YES" Future Ford is Mod friendly.

Well this is the most recent thread on our trucks stalling so i figured i would post here. Like you guys i have had my truck in 3 times to fix the stalling. The fixes above dont mention what they are doing to mine so i figured i would give you guys the heads up on what they think is the problem.
First time they replaced the throtle body, the second time the reflashed it and that worked for a few months. Then today my truck stalled on me again so i brought it back in and they couldnt find anything when they plugged it in. They just had another one like mine with the same problem and they replaced the gas tank and said that should solve it. They asked me to bring the truck in as empty as possible, I said sure as long as i get it back full.
So I will be getting that done on Friday.
Hope this works, this time.
