Changin 4.6 to 5.4?
Changin 4.6 to 5.4?
Is it possible to change from a 4.6 to a 5.4??? and does anyone know the cost it would be in order to get this done???
I'm so clueless on it. I just ordered a custom tuner and intake for my 4.6.... but if i can upgrade to a 5.4... I'll hold off.... the sooner the answer the better!
Thanks in advance!

got it used with 10,000 miles for $16,000..... I couldn't pass that up. it's an 04 4.6 .. I wish i would've gotten the 5.4, but with a deal like that, its easy to take it in the pants and sacrifice power
I'm pretty sure you'de be better off trading your 4.6 in on a 5.4...swapping in a 5.4? talk about a pain in the neck......your tranny now would not handle the 5.4 anyway.........two completely different trannys..........
Great more people and not knowing what they are talking about!
70hp huh? great flywheel numbers... can the 5.4 put it to the wheels? i have seen 5.4 dynos between 220-240 stock
my truck put down 190 to the wheels, wait thats 30hp-50hp difference, 70hp = bs, nice try though
i like the part where you say "to completely different trannys" well now lets look at the trannies
5.4 - 4r75e
4.6 - 4r70e
first digit = 4 speed
second digit = ford uses R, chevy uses L
3rd & 4th digit = dont have time to get into it now, but lets just say the higher the last to numbers the more it can withstand.
5th = e, meaning electronically controlled
now on the third and forth numbers, just think that chevy still using their 4l60e on their light duy trucks and they are pushing 280hp/3?0tq, now when you say they are completely different, good job!

Puttin in a new 5.4 is easy. 1. Get rid of truck with 4.6 in it. 2. Acquire truck with 5.4 in it. 3. Go have a couple of beers.

i have to say i agree with some of the other people here it would just be to costly to swap engines in such new trucks. the thing that is going to prent u is, the 4.6l is a 2v and the 5.4l is a three valve which means there is prolly some wiring and compnents that will not swap over. the pcm for sure will have to be changed, the engine swap itself is the easy part its getting everything working correctly which will be hard ans expensive. and you could put a 5.4l 2v in because of all of the same reasons. you are better off trading the truck in.
asinatra the trannys are different i won't say completely different but they are different. thats what the 4R75E is only offered in the 5.4L 3v if i am not mistaken.
Mac.

As for my 70 HP comment....
the 4.6 gets 231... So Ford says...
The 5.4 gets 300... So Ford says...
do the math, 300 - 231 = 69 H.P. difference.... Correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm sure assinatra will do. ... But i'm going off Ford's so claimed nubmers...

You're throwing a lot of money away if you ever change the motor of a late model truck. You may sink 5k into it and then it'll be worth 5k less.
Trade'er in.
