"Hurricane" engine

I was looking through the March issue of Motor Trend and read the article about the Ford Shelby GR-1. Wow this is an amazing car, please build it! Anyhoo, it said the car may be powered by the 7.0L V8 "Hurricane" engine producing over 600hp and 500 pound-feet of torque!
I wonder if the rumored F-150 "Hurricane" is a detuned version of this motor, or if the new line of Ford engines will all be called "Hurricane" to replace the "Triton" name.
Any ideas?

Give us the "Hurricane"

Quoted from Motor Trend:
"Concept car runs the same 6.4-liter V-10 used in the Cobra. But some sources say the production version would be powered by the 7.0-liter "Hurricane" V-8. Target power and torque outputs are the same as the Cobra V-10-- more than 600 horses and 500 pound-feet."

So maybe, just maybe the "Hurricane" will become a reality.

Could be rumor, but a friend of mine is the parts mgr at a local
dealer, he stated that the Lightning is coming out with the
5.4 3v with dual turbos, pushing 500 hp. He said it is the Ford answer to the hemi. Just have to wait and see.

and this could also be a marketing strategy used by Ford. Have you ever thought that they might be testing the market to see how big the demand is for these 2 items.

I think Steve should just remove the search button all together. It would free up room for a 'Repost' button that randomly regurgitates old topics. I love it!! It's diabolical!!!

its possible both projects are still under way.

"Hurricane" as a project is dead. A large displacement engine isn't necessarily.

The wording in these articles isn't conclusive proof that anything is dead. Just projects as we know them.

Same with the L. Maybe they are designing an L, but they are certainly designing the twin screw engine. Then they only have to spend a short time working that engine into the truck.

The Hurricane engine is cancelled.

Ford thinks the large displacement trend will be temporary, and they don't plan on competing with Chrysler (i.e. Hemi 6.1L).

Instead they will focus resources on V6 engines for the sedan market.

This makes sense for them since the F150 is the number one truck in the US, and Ford cars need all the help they can get right now.

If it's in development, how is it dead? That's like saying an unborn baby is dead.
