Test Drive

Today I drove a 04 FX4 S/C with 7200 miles when going down the highway at 55-65 mph there was a real fast vibration in the steering wheel and more noticable in the center console it was a numbing type vibe. Took it back to the dealer he had the tires balanced and rotated, while waiting drove a new 05 FX4 at the same speeds different road the vibration was not felt. On my way home I drove my 99 f150 s/c over the same road no vibration felt. I have read alot of post but not to many describe their vibration is that what everyone is feeling.

what ever you do, do not buy that fx4 with 7000 miles on it! If it has that vibration, stay back!! Theres a reason why it was traded in with only 7200 miles on it!

I had a guy at work call a Ford service dept and run the VIN and nothing showed up, tried to call the original owner never got a hold of anyone so I drove it and will not be going back mostly because of the good info on this site. BTW the build date was 8/03.

I agree with TritonXLT. Stay away. Put the keys down and back away slowly from any negotiation on that truck.

Well guys the day I made my last post the previous owner called me it was a retired man who had a motor home and towed a full size truck, because the Ford could not be flat towed he traded it for a GMC with a manual transfer case.
Also the friend at work called his buddy at the service dept he said if I drove the truck for 30 minutes and felt the vibration it had problems. So I went and got the truck drove it for several miles then my girlfriend drove it , three more other people drove it no vibration felt.
Honestly when I went and looked at the truck the first thing that come to mind was the vibration I didnt even drive it and was already paranoid I think the vibration I felt was mostly fear and nerves anyways I am now the proud owner of a 2004 FX4 Oxford White/ Dark Shadow Gray 18" tires, Chrome running tubes, Sport leather interior, 6 disc audiophile, deluxe mirrors. best riding truck I have ever been in.

The reason why he said 30 mins driving time was because of the tire flat spotting...

That excuse for trading a truck sounds fishy to me. Anyone with a motor home that tows a vehicle for 1000's of miles..the first thing he wants to know before he buy's it is what needs to be done to tow it?? Not to mention most of those motorhome guys tow go-carts. Before you lay down 30k for a 150....whatever.. I hope you got a great truck..

Flat tire spotting...

Thats ridiculous. Its a vibration that you can feel inside the truck. It shakes distinctly from side to side.

How many engineers does it take to figure out the freakin problem. What was the fix?
