Tsb 03-20-4

TSB 03-20-4 Rear door locks on screw.
I couldn't get any info on the TSB. Still have the problem of having to press unlock button for rear passengers to be able to open their door.
I did searches and still don't have the answer. Does anyone know what the TSB fix is? or have another suggestion(besides disabling autolock)?

03-20-4 BODY - INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE REPAIR - REAR DOORS ON CREW CAB AND FRONT DOORS ON REGULAR AND SUPER CAB (STX / XL)

Publication Date: September 26, 2003

FORD: 2004 F-150

ISSUE:
Some 2004 F-150 vehicles may exhibit an "unable to open the door with the inside door handle" condition, although the exterior handle works properly. This may be due to the door latch cable becoming detached from the interior door handle bezel.

ACTION:
To service, reattach the door latch cable to the interior door latch handle bezel. Install a Spring Clip (4L3Z- 1521952-AA) to retain the cable. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

<edited cuz I apparently can't read what I post...rear doors on Crew Cab, durrr>

jimmy k -

I've found this annoying myself - I always thought it was because the child safety lock switch was not working properly. Have you gone to your dealer about it? I'd be curious to know what they say.

jimmy k,

this also happens on mine and it is annoying.

it is due to the doors autolocking when you begin to drive.

when you stop the drivers door can just open - but the others do not - unless i hit the unlock button, or the passenger has to manually pull up on the lever.

Ya that is annoying to me also. Have you ever noticed thats why the door lock ***** in the back still stick up while locked, so you can unlock them. However the fronts are the pick proof style that goes flush with the window sill. Go figure.

I was so happy the day I found out that I could disable the stupid auto locking 'feature' that locks all the damn doors when you start driving.

I agree. The autolock thing is a worthless feature. Serves no point whatsoever. If I wanted the doors locked I'd lock them.

As for the "fix".... all I can say is the owners manual is wonderful thing!!!!

So disable the autolock option, read your manual.

Thanks for all the replies.

Thanks Quintin, I guess the TSB dosen't pertain to me since they can be opened from the inside AFTER unlocking all doors.

I an aware of how to deactivate the auto lock feature, but I like the feature, and don't want to have to drive w/ all doors unlocked all the time. Ford should of used the child safety override to accomplish this.

No, I haven't been to the dealer, I may give them a call, but I predict a waste of time. If I call, I'll post their response.

where in the owner manual does it say how to open the rear doors to open w/o pressing "unlock", or disabling the auto lock feature( which I believe is the only "fix' the manual gives)??
A lot of people would be interested.

Spoke w/ the service manager today. Basically said they could not do anything to overide any safety feature.

So basically you can't open the doors from the inside in the rear unless you disable the auto lock program or press unlock manually?

some of us think that a truck with auto-locks should also auto-unlock, which is how most vehicles which are equipped with this feature perform

you shouldn't have to disable a feature because it wasn't installed properly

That's pretty much the way it is.
