Tempature guage reads 20 over actual

I cannot figure out why the temp indicator reads 57 outside and it's really 37. This just started happening a couple of days ago.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

On startup or even after serveral miles of driving? It takes a bit for the sensor to get an accurate reading. Was really bad in my Lincoln LS, the F150 seems to be much better, only about 5 degrees or so off upon startup.

It happens on startup and never changes even after a 30 mile run.

I check to make sure that no debris got near the sensor...or at least I think its the sensor.

I did notice in the past that the temp does change after a few mile, however now it stays the same.

???

Mine started doing the same thing 3 weeks ago. I started a thread on this before but got no resolutions for the problem.
It does it all the time, sitting, driving, whatever. I haven't been to the dealer yet to get it fixed so I can't tell you what's wrong.

I did go out and turn the key on while holding down the trip reset button and it did a guage sweep and I scrolled through some of the other menu options none of which seemed relative the problem I was having.
I hate to go to the dealer for something so pety, I love my truck and so far after 4200 miles of joyous driving this is the only problem I have.

There was a TSB and PCM update to fix this issue posted on this site last year. Do some searching and you will come up with the TSB number to give the dealer.

I think your truck is probably right and that the weather stations, bank signs, and other informational tools are probably just wrong.

Seriously man, I hope you get it taken care of as well. I know that would drive me bonkers.

Are you the guy who compared his car temp to the temp which was displayed on some store sign?

I wish I could be that dumb. However if I was that dumb I would have bought a Dodge Ram or Chevy.

Thanks for all your help fellas. I have to make an appointment with the "stealership" <--I saw that in one of the threads.

Nope. My LS owners manual actually said you had to be in motion for like 5 miles before the temp sensor would read correctly... wierdest thing.

If you get the PCM updated, that also means stuff like throttle respnse will also be fixed, if you are having any hesitation.

i took my 04 screw in during the summer for the temp being wrong. when it was incorrect the air conditioning did not cool like it should. it is tied to the auto temp control. the service writer acted like he never heard of this problem. they had the truck all day and when i would call they would say they were still trying to duplicate the problem. i told them to just replace the sensor and they said it had to be proven failed. i told him if he didnt replace it i would be back the next day and he should just ignore the melted plastic from me putting 110 volts to it. he finally agreed and replaced it. when i went to pick it up i went around back and started talking to a tech, he said they have replaced a bunch of the sensors and takes care of the problem every time. he said they dont even trouble shoot it. they just r and r. service writer was just bull*****ting. they are good at that.

The only hesitation I have is from the fact that I can see the gas guage go down when I stomp on the pedal.
