New member hello
New member here - made a brief intro on the King Ranch board the other day. Live in Willams Lake, British Columbia, which is about 6 hours north of Vancouver. Thanks for the welcome from those who responded to my original post!
I am currently in 'study' phase of purchasing a new truck - will hopefully be making a decision before the end of March - likely will be a Super Crew F150 lariat 4x4, or possibly the King Ranch. Sat in a Lariat today and man am I ready for a new vehicle! Been driving my 9 year old Cherokee, for, well, 9 years
Anyway, I live in a smaller town, and the dealer inventory isn't great. I was talking to the salesman about how things work in respect of them bringing in a vehicle from another dealer. I qualify for x plan, and he was saying that we'd need to see how things would work out. Basically, I'm thinking that rather than waiting for 6-8 weeks delivery, it might be more feasible to have the local dealer bring one in from another dealer, i.e. swap units, or other wise. There is a major centre about 6 hours drive from here, and a number of the dealers there have various models in stock that meet 99% of my criteria for options, etc. Aside from the cost of moving the vehicle, what other costs / loss of profit would we be looking at? I assume the local dealer will lose the opportunity to make the dealer holdback on a unit transferred from another dealer? Any experience out there?
On a lesser issue - generally speaking I don't perceive the need for a moonroof, particularly at the expense of the overhead rail console. I like the concept of the customizable overhead bins. What's the opinion from board members on the utility of these? Are they of decent size - can you store lots of junk in there?
Great board with lots of info and enthusiasm!
Dave.

hey dave. i don't know if you read my response to your other post, but i'd like to take the opportunity to welcome you to the best f-150 site on the web.
i know what you mean about crappy inventory. i do know that dearborn ford here in kamloops has at least one king ranch on the lot. i'm pretty sure it's black. you could check their website, they keep it pretty well up to date concerning their inventory. that's who i bought my truck from, good salespeople and great service department too.
in terms of the overhead bids, ahh, they're all right i guess. if i could do it again, i'd get a moonroof instead. i don't really need a little compartment just to put my sunglasses in. they fit in the console just fine. if you're set on the DVD player, then obviously get the rail system.
kamloops ford lincoln (the other ford dealership in town) still has at least two beautiful 04 lariats on the lot for 0% plus at least $1000 cash back. there's a loaded aspen green/arizona beige supercrew and an absolutely GORGEOUS medium wedgewood blue/arizona beige supercrew. i tried making a deal to trade in my 04 XLT crew for the wedgewood blue truck but i just couldn't justify the payments. someone has got to buy that truck. it's got EVERYTHING except the moonroof. i'm drooling just thinking about it.
anyway, the options are here, take a day trip down from bill's puddle at check everything out. i think it would be more rewarding and less of a hassle than trying to get your dealership to ship a truck up for you.
good luck man!!

Sometimes it will be more important to find a good dealer, and then worry about the truck later. If you can find a service dept. that is willing to go the extra mile for their customer - that is worth as much as what kind of deal you make with the salesman.
I don't see why it would be a problem for them to ****** a vehicle off of another lot to make the sale. I've seen/heard it done before.
Find that dealership that shines above the rest, buy the truck from them, use their service dept, and continue to deal with them in the future....it will pay off in the end. Once you sign that dotted line, you are no longer the priority to the salesman.

Thanks for the extra welcome RockPick! I love the fact that people with a common interest can communicate and share notes with people so far away. Never been to your part of the US (other than parts of New York state when I was a kid, have only been to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Oh, and Hawaii and of course Vegas!) but would love to make a trip one day! Road trip......
Wasachevyguy - yeah I saw your post on the KR board - much appreciated for the welcome and good to hear from someone local. So ya moved to the big town after 3 years in 100 Mile! Great little town as I'm sure you know. Mind you, I think Kamloops is one of the best towns in BC as well. What did you do in 100 Mile?
Might just have to wander down to Kamloops, mind you I get down to the coast a lot (unfortunately). One dealer down there has 2 King Ranch's on the lot, loaded except for the DVD player, both in the dark copper colour.....oooooooo.......
Can't decide if buying from a dealer out of town is the best decision - I think the ongoing service will be that much better from the local dealer if they sell the vehicle - as you know this ain't a big town!
thanks for the comments on the overhead compartments - sounds like they aren't all that important.
Any direct experiences with having a dealer bring a vehicle in from another dealer? Issues?

First of all welcome jackpine.
As for your questions first of all i would never buy a vehicle without the moonroof especially one as expensive as what you are looking at. I open mine evry day in the summer. Second you will get the best price from the dealer that has the truck you want in stock, or if you factory order it. If you go the dealer swap method they will have to cover the costs of transporting the vehicle to you.
If you are in Vancouver anyway you may as well look around there to get your best deal. Or you can come to alberta and get an even better deal as we dont have the PST.
Im sure your service department wont hate you for getting your truck elsewhere especially if they dont have what you want in stock.
Hope this helps and again welcome aboard.

hey welcome!
it's a lot of money.
buy what you WANT! May the dealer locates the model you want, maybe you order it. You've been driving the Cheokee for so long, what's another 8-12 weeks?
Don't settle for what's on the lot or you will be sorry.
