Cool First tow

Brought a new 22' Regal home last night after our test ride. Wasn't all that thrilled doing it in the dark, but pressed on anyway.

I was told that trailer & boat weigh out at 4800, but that's probably dry weight, this one has a 54 gal tank that was half full, plus a few extra bells and whistles. Have to go to a scale to really find out for sure.

I could feel the weight as I started climbing some of the steeper hills in my area, but it did pretty well (for a stock truck). Glad I didn't get the 3.55 rear. I think I'll be calling Mike pretty soon.

I hope that 22' Regal doesnt have an outboard. The weight sounds about right for that size boat. I bet once you get on the open road, you wont even know it' back there. My 20' Fourwinns pulls great. Boats are very stream line unlike a flat fronted camper, alot less wind ressistance. Have fun with your boat.

Fianlly somebody else has a Four Winns, I was feeling like a loaner for awhile. I did not check but I am going to guess you are in the northern part of the counrty, where most of the Four Winns tend to be located.

...so I was wrong, either way nice to know somebody has something besides a Sea Ray

Nice boat, Rmills8.

I bought my fx4 last summer primarily to tow my 20 foot Bayliner. I had an Explorer Sport trying to do the job, but didn't have enough engine. The 04 Screw 5.4 and 3.73, I don't even realize I'm pulling anything back there. Can't wait for the springtime to put her back in the water.

No outboard motor....it's a volvo Penta with the 5.7 Chevy engine (injected, of course)

Be happy to send a pic, if anyone can host it.

The volvo penta is the drive leg, it is akin to the mercruiser alpha one leg.....

I see about 3700lbs on the web site and I guess they figured about 1100lbs on the trailer. Usually when they give you those weights on boats they are not including things from engine oil weight to props. Figure another 300lb for a tank of fuel and you'll probably need to figure about 5-700lbs of crap from fire extinguishers to an anchor, chain and line, saftey equip, electronics, bimini tops and rest of the stuff you need for day on the water. Now all of a sudden your a 6000-6500lb load... I hope your dealer put at least a 7000lb trailer under it??

The Vovlo Penta has Cone shifting in the outdrive which is more like the Bravo Two Mercr. Outdrive. The Merc. Alpha one has a clutch dog shifter. The difference is when shifting, the Merc. has a loud clunk, the Penta has a slight thud sound and is very smooth. Our 20' Fourwinns has a 305 chevy block, but has Vovlo Penta components. It does 55 mph, GPS verified. I normally keep it on 32 mph just putting around getting great mileage. We can play all day on 10-15 gal.

Great day for boating yesterday. Was able to boat in a T shirt in February! The table came in very handy on the 2200 for our lunch, just bobbing around. Actually not much bobbing, as the lake was very calm.

Need more practice on my docking skills, as I had a hard time getting the stern to swing in to the dock to have someone step off. Had to go off the bow, the last time. Would rather use the walk-thru transom to go off the stern....then to keep stepping on the cushions.

A bass turny had a lot of boats waiting to trailer up. I don't have the luxury of jumping off to get the trailer while the boat waits offshore, because my lady isn't experienced enough yet to do it alone.

Practice makes perfect tho...that's we're going to go out every weekend that isn't raining...so we'll be smooth by summer.
