2005 V6 F-150.. Impressions?

I was at the dealership the other day with a friend and noticed F150s in the new body style with the V6 engine (All were with automatic transmissions). I looked around a bit and it looks like they updated at least the intake manifold -- I was wondering if anyone here owns one or has driven one?

I have the old body style truck with the V6 and am curious about how the engine pulls the new and larger, heavier truck.

One benefit I noticed is how easy it would be to work on! Because it's so much smaller than the 5.4 3v, there is a LOT of room in there!

Haven't seen anyone on this board yet with the V6. As many complaints as there have been on the lack of power in the 4.6 though, I don't expect there to be very many if any that will take that chance.

I have a feeling that Ford offers those engines for the like of companies that want fleet trucks with somewhat better mileage then the V8 versions. That why they are only available in the lower end models.

The one thing I'd say about your last comment though, is that all the space in the engine compartment would be nice, because you would be bolting up alot of equipment to up the power. Otherwise, I would hope my new truck doesn't need to be worked on alot!

Blessings!

My last 2002 f150 had the anemic 4.2L v6 and I will never go back to one, the gas mileage is roughly the same with my 4.6L and the power for passing on the highway is a world of difference with the V8.

I thought that the 5.4 got the best gas mileage followed by the 4.6 then the 4.2...

I'm sure the 60-80 times of it are in the hours and not minutes.

I was on Ford's website searching yesterday and I saw a bunch of the V6 with automatic available. There were very few 5.4 engines available in the lower trim lines.

re

I got a neighbor who lives down the street from me who has a 2005 f150 XL with the 4.2 V-6. I talked to him once about his new truck when he brought it home about 2 months ago. He said he likes the truck, but never plans on towing or hauling much of anything. He said he brought the truck with the 4.2 v-6 since he had the same engine in his older f-150 he had and said it never gave him any problems.

I guess if your happy with what you got...all the power to you! I Me myself, I doubt I would be happy with a 4.2 v-6, just to big of a truck for a 6 cyl.

Well I do not own a V6, but rather the 5.4. I was in to get service the other day and they loaned me a new 05 F150 Auto 6 banger, and all I am going to say is weak very weak. No ways for the little savings I could ever justify that. Not to mention the big depreciation loss compared to a V8. The service manager told me everyone they have loaned it to so far has complained of lack of power......

The world is strange. Lets say Ford had some kind of 4 Cyl in there F150...theres still going to be some weirdos that go out and buy them! The people who would buy them will always have an excuss on why they brought the truck they did...people are weird

Regardless of how long you keep it, an F150 with the V6 will eat your lunch when it's time to get rid of it. Go check out KBB.com and see what the difference is on identical 5 year old trucks with the V6 versus the V8. The extra dollars spent on the V8 is money in the bank.

Can't say I have any experience with the six BUT.... I do have the 4.6 with the 8 ft bed and I would not want anything smaller under the hood than what I have. I'm happy with the small 8 but I can't imagine a six pulling around this new 150..... my advice is stick with one of the eights. Like the other poster said, when it comes to resale time you'll thank yourself. good luck.

yeah but your current 4.6 is in a heavier truck than your old 4.2 was, unless your 04 is a heritage model. I've driven a 2001 with the 4.2 and a 5 speed manual, it's ok, but I think it would not do so well with a 4 speed auto.
