I just read an article in Four Wheeler Magazine I wanted to share with everyone.
I know allot of people complain about the gas mileage they get in their F-150's, but after reading the "Long Term Update" in the Mag it showed the 2004 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4X4 get the same if not worse then our F-150's,
To date, they have 16612 miles on their test truck and the average gas mileage is 13.0 The best tank is 16.4 and the worst is 7.4(towing).
Anyway, the point of this is to show some people that our trucks(even though they do love gas) are by far not the worst ones out there and as most of us can see are better that allot of other ones. By the way the Toyota is running a 4.7 Liter, vice our 5.4's and 4.6's.
Anyway, like I said this is just FYI.

I'm not so sure this is true about MPG's between these 2 trucks
Hi there, I'm a newbie to my F150 and this board.
I had a 2000 Tundra extended cab 4x4 with their 4.7 V8 (everything stock) and I regularly got 16 MPG combined around town and highway (sometimes up to 18 mpg on longer trip).
I had it from new to about 70,000's
I just got a 2000 F150 regular cab Flairside 4x4 with the 4.6 V8 (everything stock) and I have YET to get above 14 MPG even on longer highway trips. I regularly only get ~ 13mpg
It has about 50,000.
I have to tell you I am VERY disappointed in the gas mileage with the F150. I am also not overly impressed with the engine "feel" overall, it seems like the Toyota drivetrain was ~much~ more smoother and sophisticated. I was impressed with that engine.
Now don't think that I am Ford bashing here. I have to say that I really like the styling of my F150 Flairside . I think it looks sweet
ps. The reason I don't have my Tundra anymore is because I got hit on the side while going down I87 @ 65 MPH towards the Tapan Zee in NY and I flipped the Truck END OVER END a few times
. The truck ended up back on its tires and into teh gaurd rail and I ended up walking away from it... Yes I was VERY lucky I had an

Dang, better gas mileage and battle proven in a multiple roll crash and you still bought a different brand vehicle?

So I took the money and got a car and an F150 truck. I got a sweet deal on the F150 and it looks very nice.
I have pics of my flipped over Tundra on the web somewhere. The first thing to hit pavement was the top of the cab and top of hood. In fact the bumper never hit anything until the truck finally landed into the center gaurd rail
I too looked at the Tundra before puchasing my F150 and by the window stickers the Tundra was 1mpg worse tha an F150. I also have a friend who bought a new Tundra and he has confirmed the sticker mileage on his truck as being hard to duplicate. So far I have gotten 13.6mpg in town and 18mpg on the highway, and I have the 5.4 engine, which is right on with the 14mpg city and 18mpg hway that was on my window sticker. Both of our trucks are 4X4s. So all in all I think I made a wise decision on my part.

maybe an aftermarket computer chip can smooth out the drive train and shifting and power curve
BTW I have the 3.55 and and same driving habits and the gas mileage is nowhere near the same, in fact I used to punch the gas on my Tundra more often.
Maybe its a "winter thing" with F150 and this summer it'll get better. I hope so
(ps. Yeah - there are quite a few Toyota dealers that are 'pinheads' I have noticed that too and confirmed by many others. I think they know they have a decent product and thus have jerk attitudes at times)

The Toyota powertrain was very smooth but had a hugh turning circle (4X4).
YES...The Tundra extended cab had a HUGE turning radius cao
mpared to my F150 regular cab....maybe one of the resasons for a smoother ride too
and in full disclosure the Tundra DID have a problem with undresizing the brake pads on the 2000-2002 Tundras (I think I read that they had tacoma calipers on the Tundra...WHAT were they thinking !!!?!?
) --- That was the only real problem I had with that truck and the only thing I would tell people to keep an eye on for pre 2003 Tundras
