Question mounting bikes in the bed

hey all,

I'm trying to decide between SCab and SCrew. Have any of you mounted mountain or road bicycles inside the bed of a Screw? Pics if you have any.

My 99 Kawasaki ZX6R fit in my 6.5' Flareside box with no problems and the tailgate closed. Almost an exact fit with less than an inch to spare.

Could use a SCREW but the bike will sit on the tailgate.

not in the bed... I prefer the 2" receiver mount bike racks.

Keeps the bed empty for other things.

Depends on the size of your bike. I've never tried loading my Harley in the back of my truck. Instead, I just use my trailer (easier to load and unload than from the height of the 4x4s. When I had a Honda, it would fit in the 6.5 ft bed with the talgate down. My CBR would fit with the tailgate up.

dirt bikes

I've loaded 2 dirtbikes in my Scab, but the tailgate needs to stay down.

i also have the tailgate down on my screw with the dirtbikes in the back BUT marzipan asked about bicycles - and with those you can buy a simplr bar with bike mounts - remove the front wheels, monut the bike to the bar - and then you can certainly fit them in with the tailgate up - even with a short bed.

The bikes fit easily in a screw. I have mine mounted back towards the tailgate, they could easily move forward 16".

I have screw and haul 2 mountain bikes in the 5.5'bed. I lay them down on top of each other angled in the bed, so I can close the tail. As long as you don't care if they get scratched, this works just fine.

I used a Thule Bedrider Bike Bar. It's meant to mount on the bedrails, but I preferred the 2x4 slots in the bed. I found mounting it there more secure and less visible.

The bike bar comes with two fork mounts and 1 wheel holder. Plus it is adjustable, and can be shortened to fit any size truck bed. It's also lockable, so the bar can't be stolen.

I bought a Bimmer to replace my 00' Scab (Have 04' FX4), and don't need the bike rack anymore, and it's like brand new. So if you are interested, contact me.

thanks for the replies guys, I think i'm gradually leaning towards the SCrew, seeing as they'll fit in the back.

Gpaje, thanks for the offer but I haven't got my truck yet so i won't keep you waiting

Jimmy K, I'm not that keen on letting $5000 skid around in the back, that's one of the reasons why i'm getting a truck: more room for toys

I've hauled the dirt bike and the YZF600R (Yamaha sportbike) in the back. No problems.

I prefer to use the bed myself to haul the mountain bikes--much safer protection for $5k worth of machinery!

With the SCrew, you should'nt have a prob fitting the bikes in the bed... definitely no issues if you use a Yakima beddy-jo and remove the front wheels.

With my SCab (6.75' bed), I opted for the SportWorks Instagater; very easy to mount and load bikes w/o having to remove wheels. With 5.5' bed, you should still have plenty of room.

I'll post some pics soon.

Wow, mine was only $500 10 yrs ago(this is a bicycle right?)I actually used to have a pretty cool mount that anchored to the side bed rail(no drilling) just had to remove front tire. Can't remember the name, sorry.
