These Trucks Suck In The Snow...

They are as good as or better in 4 wheel drive, but trying to start in 2 wheel drive is useless. With 80% of the engine torque showing up at 1000rpm it's almost impossible to get going in 2 wheel drive. Anyone else notice this problem??

I've got the BFG Rugged Trails. I didn't expect much, but braking in the snow was good and thats why it surprised me so much with them breaking loose so easy trying to get moving....

I have no problems here.... Must be the operator

I live in Colorado and I've only had to put in 4wheel a few times but other than that if it is a small snow fall, i leave it in 2wd and still kick it. Dunno

I've got the Rugged Trails too and heard they were lousy in the snow. I havn't got to test them yet, but just heard. I don't think it's the truck. These tires arn't rated very good for the snow compared with others.

You must have better rubber... I'm not a rookie living Maine for 4 years. The inlaws are from there... Granted South Jersey doesn't see much snow, but I'm from PA and my 88 Bronco would eat this new 150 in the snow...

Operator problems might be the case from the stand point of not trying to get moving using 2nd gear... Maybe my fly by wire gas pedal might too responsive???

I've been driving now for 34 years and in lots of snow and ice in lots of 4 wheel drive trucks. Even my bone F250HD with the 460 and 4 speed manual with an open 3.54 rear was better in the snow than this new 150...

I think they are a good tire. Like I said they suprised me for stopping grip. It's just the jump power from the engine that breaks them loose in the snow...

Snow isn't my problem in S Jersey. I use them on the sand on the beach. In the sand you don't want teeth(mud tires) you want big, smooth and round to float over it... That theroy doesn't work in snow. In snow you want self cleaning open wide teeth and narrow to dig down into it.. The pure snow or mud tire is a noisy mother on the highway...

wow....who would have thought that trucks in 2x4 suck at getting moving from a dead stop in snow?

the BFG's might not be the best tires but they are far from bad. Iv had a fine time driving around wiinipeg with them on....

Everyone's experience is different as is driving style but just tonight on nasty roads I was surprised how well my truck behaved, even in 2WD, and I don't even have LS. It's no worse than my old truck at the least. Maybe I drive like an old woman though.

Mine is great in 2WD. Drove 15 miles last night in a snowstorm, we got about 8" over night, and never spun a wheel. Wrangler AT/S tires, so far have been impressed with them.

I have the generals but I spent part of yesterday pulling people out of the snow because these morons think its important to go out on unplowed roads for milk or something

Anyways, With the 3:55 L/S in my truck I was able to keep the truck in 2wd going down most unplowed streets. Its only where it got real messy or when I was pulling people that I had it in 4hi.

And people give these ruggid trails a bad rap. They are not bad tires, but are not snow tires at all. Actually the generals are better in snow I bet because of the slotting. The RTs dont really have that, and in snow thats where the grip comes from.

You want a unstopable (but pricy) tire for snow. Check out the Michelin X-Ice tires. This replaced the artic alpine and when I got my first shipment I was impressed with the normal michelin quality.

I have had little problem with mine, but I do have limited slip. I really only use the 4x4 for an insurance policy when it gets REAL bad.

no problems in the snow up here in the north. just don't gun it from a standstill and you'll be all right. i have the rugged trails and the thought of buying winter tires hasn't even crossed my mind.

You will have less wheelspin when starting out from a standstill if the gear selector is in second gear. This locks the transmission in second gear until the gear selector is moved to drive per the owners manual.

I just did a 250 mile round trip with snowpacked roads most of the way. I also have the BFG's. The tires and the truck both did much better than I was anticipating.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and we get snow and ice all winter (5-6 months worth) and we just went through a week cold snap of -40c to warming and freezeing rain and snow, and my truck performs awsome it has only come out of 4x4 twice this winter. thats why i own a 4x4 is so i don't have to bitch about traction in 2wd. my 04 works as good or better the 03 XTR 4x4 did.

Mac.
