Wiring schematics....

Are there ANY available at all for the new 04's with the 5.4L 3V? No auto parts store around here has a manual for the new 04's.

They arent available yet apparently. I need to know which wire is the Coil positive wire. I am installing an aftermarket tachometer and tach ADAPTER. The tach is in and done...the tach adapter is the problem. Cant find the last wire to get a tach signal.

I am confused because the common wire for all the coils is red with green stripe. Each coil has this wire and then the other wire on each coil is a different color.

Auto Meter techs told me to cut and splice the red/green wire at the PCM. I did and it WAS NOT the correct wire. When I touced it to my tach adapter it turned on the ignition...LOL!!!

He says it is the #34 pin connector that I need to locate on the PCM. Well, no such luck anywhere locally. Can you guys help?

The red/grn wire is the coil positive, on with the key on. The ground side is what the PCM pulses to fire the injector. And thats why they are all diff. color.

Okay, but is this the same wire that is located on the PCM harness? There are 3 main harnesses hooked up to the PCM and one hanging from the middle harness. In that harness there is a red/green wire that Auto Meter claims to be the coil positive wire. Well, when I hooked the tach adapter up to it as stated, it turned the ignition on or something. The ignition "ding, ding, ding" tone started without the key even in the ignition.

Do you know which wire at the PCM will get me a tach signal?

Where did you get that? It looks like it "might" help but it doesnt specify the coil positive wire 12 volt.

I need to find the wire that is the tach signal.

Good info...I am getting closer.

On the sheet it lists Tach as a tan wire on the injectors....reason being the fuel injector signal will have the same effect as hooking up to a single coil type ignition system.

Yeah, but you'd figure that teh tach signal would come from the COIL wouldnt it. Well, I will check it out but I cant go splicing up a bunch of wires...ya know. LOL!!!

Thanks for the input guys. Any more suggestions are welcome.

I have tried all of these wires to get a good tach signal. I "am" getting a signal from the red wire on the fuel injectors, but NO signal from the tan wire on the injector? However, the signal I get on the red injector wire sends the tachometer up to 7,000rpm at idle. So, I tried the red/green wire at the PCM like Auto Meter told me to and I got a very erratic bouncing signal that registered somewhat normal, but when I rev it, it goes to 8000 rpm. LOL!!!

I am confused. I have the tach adapter set-up right as far as I can see. I checked and double checked.

I do NEED a tach adapter....right?

Well, I figured it out. The installation instructions Auto Meter sent are WRONG. I called Auto meter directly and the tech guy told me to FORGET about the instructions and listen to him.

Well, I did and he was right....I got a good tach signal. However, by the time I got done dic*** around with their wiring instructions, I had fried the damn thing. So, although the tach worked, when it was ran through the adapter, my engine was cutting out. So, I disconnected it and reinstalled the original wires and engine ran fine.

JDM Racing where I bought it from refused a refund because "they" didnt make the instructions. So, Auto Meter tells me I have to send in the adapter and get it fixed and pay shipping.

So, I said screw it and bought a new one off of ebay for MUCH cheaper and it is on the way. I should have done that in the 1st place, but still I didnt know the wiring. Now I do. So, good to go.

P.S. If you guys happen to buy or need a tach adapter...AUTO METER has the WRONG instructions in their install sheet. it can screw up your computer. BEWARE. i have the correct diagram for 04-05 F150's with the 5.4L.

Mail it back to them with a tracking #, then contact your credit card company. JDM may refuse to accept the item, but your tracking # will show you ATTEMPTED to return it to them. That attempt is all your credit card company needs to see to give you a refund.

Don't let them push you around like that. You send it back to them, they send it back to AutoMeter. Everyone wins. That's how they are SUPPOSED to do it.
