noise while turning in 4wd

I used my 4wd today, we got some snow here in maryland. I noticed an odd noise when making slow turns in 4wd. Almost like an electric whine. A steady slightly high pitch sound, similar to a loose belt. It isn't very loud but I can hear it. Anyone else heard that and know what it is?

Big Screw,

I'm with you about the snow. I'm here in Owings Mills, MD (north of Baltimore). I went out at lunch and had some fun. Turning, especially tight slow turns, will make a "noise" but it isn't usually high pitched. Mine certainly didn't today.

BTW I keep waiting for a big snow and I'm sure this is al we'll get cause this year I've got a 4x4

hey, it sounds to me like your power steering, but it doesnt mean there is anything wrong with it. in 4wd, your front wheels dont WANT to turn, so your power steering works much harder to get it to turn. its not the best thing for your truck, but its not hurting it. still, try avoid sharp turns in 4wd, it applies a lot of stress to the drivetrain and steering
