A few hours to install? Must have had 6 people working on it! I was working alone last night for 3 hours, and got the rears completed!

Hopefully the fronts (fogs and headlights) go much smoother!

I mounted my brain behind the rear seat....seems to be a rather convenient location.

Sweet set up you have there. I am a volunteer fireman and I use my truck to respond to most of the calls that I go to. I live just far enough from the fire hall, that most of the times the trucks have already rolled. Anyways, I run a Whelen Responder light bar on the roof that I have had for the last 13 years. The past 2 years I was an assistant chief, I ran a set of Micro Thin grille lights that sat on the support piece behind the grille. I also had the speaker for my remote siren mounted below this support, right in between the two coolers that I have.

And yes, in my area a 100 watt siren is more than enough! We don't want to be giving the 'blue hairs' heart attacks......

 

Not trying to get off subject here but DrPaul, what is your position at the fire station that requires you to drive your personal vehicle on calls??
I don't know about New Jersey but the only people in the fire service around here (FL) who don't ride on the truck, engine or rescue but actually go to calls are Batallion Chiefs or higher.... and their vehicles are all provided by the department.

 

I too am curious Dr. Paul. I have never heard of lighting a personal vehicle.

 

vol/paid we respond to firehouse with personal vehicle then go to work...

 

No disrespect at all, but why do you need to light your vehicle up to get to the firehouse. Do you only go to the firehouse when there is an emergency?

Before I was hired as a Fulltime FF/PM (chicago) I worked for a volunteer department also. People had strobes on there cars but you still had to obey all the traffic laws. You couldn't run redlights, stopsigns, or go over the limit. I felt it was actually a waste of money because of this, but on the other hand they do look really cool.

 

Are you other volunteer Firemen, First Responders etc required to obey traffic control signals and speed limits when "on call"?

 

On IL yes, when responding to the firehouse for a call you have to obey all traffic laws. It's actually illegal to use any blue lights or strobes in the city of chicago.

How long you been in the service for

 

Just a little over a year now, and we here in MN are also required to obey traffic laws.
