Speedo Off

My 04 and my dads 05 are both off by 3 mph. So when we are doing 70 according to speedo it is more like 67. Verified this with two different GPSs. Got 2 questions about this. Since my speedo is reading faster than I am actually going, then am I putting miles on the truck faster or does the speedo and odometer work independently

Soon I am going to purchase the 1714 tuner. Can the speedo be fixed by putting the tire size in even though it is the stock 18s tire size.

Ford calibrates the speedo to read slightly faster then your actual speed. In the old days when the speedo was run by a cable and gears it would affect the odometer. With these electronic bits though, the two are independant of each other, so the odometer should be accurate.

If your tuner has the option of inputting tire size, then it should also recalibrate the speedo based on that. I haven't used one myself (yet), but from what I've seen from friends that have, it will calibrate the speedo for larger tires and some will compensate for different gearing as well.

Its normal, believe it or not...

I tried to fix it with my superchip tuner but its not worth it...I talked to Mike Troyer about it so i left it as stock speedo.

Mines about 2mph off..

Do the search over in computer chip and find the thread by me YOMAN.. Here it is https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=178764

Thanks, my main concern was the odometer reading incorrectly.

Exclamation Mine is off too...

My speedometer reads 3 MPH faster than my actual speed. This has been confirmed by GPS and speed radar.
