Smile Trailer Hitch

What is a good trailer hitch, that is easy to put on and look good. My FX4 didn't come with the towing packing.

You should be able to buy the Ford hitch trough your parts department. I did on my 2000 Harley F150 and the price was very close to that on aftermarket hitches. With the Ford hitch you KNOW it will fit without any problems.

Got a draw tite on the internet, believe it was hitchfinder.com,
price with shipping was excellent, installation, easy, about a half hour with two people.

DrawTite series 51 is usually no drill and pretty cheap.
Valley is a drill install, but still inexpensive.

My '04 didn't come with a hitch either. The Ford dealer here in Houston quoted me $325 for the hitch/install. I went to a local truck supply store and bought a Valley Class III/IV Hitch for $111 and had it installed (drilled to frame) for $40.

I thought all the 5.4s came with tranny coolers... I know my FX4 has one, and I did not get the tow package.

No - that cooler you're looking at is likely the power steering fluid cooler. Tranny coolers come with tow packages on the 5.4L.

I'd like to thank Ford for putting 5000lb hitch under a vehicle rated to tow 9500lbs.

http://www.hitch-web.com/default.asp They got 13 of them here that will fit..

They frame is pre-drilled. Any brand hitch will work, as long as it is the one for your truck. You hold it up and put on six bolts. Fifteen minutes tops to install. I picked mine up at Farm & Fleet on sale for under $100. It was a 10,000# hitch. The one from the factory is only 5,000#.

Are you guys sure the factory hitch is only 5,000# ??

My brochure states the factory towing package is required for towing over 5,000#.

If you get under there and look its a massive chunk of steel to the hitch, but straight pull it's 5k. No doubt with an equalizer bars it's probably rated 8-10k...

Not all hitchs bolt on, some require drill install.

I just saw that curt makes a 10K/12K hitch for our trucks...
