Actually, I took the paperwork home to have my better half sign it, then the tranny broke before I could return the papers. So, I am effectively holding the paperwork hostage until I get this resolved. I will have no problem getting out of the deal, per my salesman, and due to never having turned in the paperwork.

Dude,

If you still have the papers don't bother with calling fords customer help line. Go into the dealer tell them you want the dang warranty if they refuse to produce then tear up the papers and walk out.

Deff. go higher. At this point the Service Manager really shouldnt be the one your talking to since the paperwork isnt signed. I would talk to your salesman, and if he wont do anything talk to the Sales Manager, and then the owner next. Just be polite the entire time. These guys can be real A-Holes if they want to. But if your nice with them , than you should be able to get what you want. And if they really want to lose the sale , a customer and risk that fact that you're gonna tell 10,000 people how bad the dealership sucks, then you dont want to deal with them anyway.

Good luck

My point exactly. If you still have the papers and they're being like this then maybe it's time to find a new dealer. I do agree though that you should pressure the sales team into making something happen first.

If they are this difficult now, you cannot imagine how difficult they may become after they have your signed paperwork. Right now you hold the controls but as soon as you sign then they will have you over a barrel and may be much less willing to help you.

YIPPEE!

Just got a call from my salesman...Ford is offerring me a 5yr/75K Powertrain ESP for my trouble!

This makes it a no-brainer...I like the truck, there are no others like it left (2004), and I got a smokin' deal in the first place. Woohoo!

My only question, if anybody knows, will the rental coverage on the Powertrain ESP cover any warranty repair (i.e. non-powertrain repairs during the 3/36 warranty)? Or just powertrain repairs. I'm sure I will find out soon enough, but if anyone has experience with this, it would be great to know now.

Man if my transmission would have chunked before I even signed the papers, I do not think I would buy it. Thats just me.

Seems like you have the upper hand now. I would push the envelope a bit and see what you can get. See what kind of a deal you can get on an 05. There have been some changes that might be worth a few extra dollars. Or who knows they might cave and give you a sweet price on an 05. The extra year on the KBB makes a differance on the resale value. An 05 is always going to sell for more than an 04. fwiw.

In 30 years a 2004 and a 2005 will be worth the same in real dollars as long as they have the same options and are in same condition. There is no way there will be a $3k difference between them. KBB is just about worthless when it comes to figuring out how much a car is worth. The car is worth what people are willing to pay and KBB isn't even close most of the time.

Blue Book value is good for trade in, to give you an idea of what to expect so the stealership dosn't compleetly rip you off, but their private sale values are usually just ok to use a a rough guideline. They said my old truck was worth $7000, yeah right. Somehow those crazy supply and demand laws just muck up the blue book value.

I have the 7/75 Extra Care Warranty (also free). It only covers rentals for repairs specifically covered under the Extra Care plan. For example, my power steering pump went out and I got a rental. Air bag light came on, no rental.

I personally would make sure they put a NEW, not remanufactured transmission in the truck. Going through the second pump in less than 10 miles indicates there is a serious problem. It may be something as strange as a mis-machined transmission case (saw that on gm products).

It is kind of like the scene in the World According to Garp. They decided to buy a house after a plane crashed into it since it already had its disaster.

Good luck with your new truck and esp package.

The replacement transmission is brand-spanking new, straight from Ford. It is the entire unit, complete with fluid, just like the units they bolt on at the factory. I was told Ford is taking the entire bad tranny back to Dearborn to figure out what is wrong.
