Definatly go with the Lariat.

Why would you have plastic painted bumpers on a "off roading" truck, talk about scratching up your bumpers if you ever did take it off roading. and I know for myself that the chrome bumpers take a beating. Plus the Lariat has way better re-sale value!

I agree. No doubt i think the painted bumpers look good but i still like the chrome. My 99 sport has the painted bumpers and damn i have rock chips all over the bumpers...Looks like little craters all over it. Still looks good from the distance tho. When my dad bought his new 04...he didnt care what he got...he would be satisfied with the xlt like he previously had (2000). I talked him into getting the lariet for many reasons but this was one of them. My relatives drive chevy. And one just bought a new silverado and was comparing it to our 00 xlt. so a week later we ended up getting a new one and there isnt much of a comparison interior to the chevys. I think ford can have the bragging rights on better interior. That is why they won motor trend interior of the year i believe.

Maybe not worth the extra cost but the homelink is worth mentioning. Not available in the FX4. As a matter of personal preferance I like the ride of the lariat better. As for off road capabilities. With the optional skid plates installed the lariat is just as good as the FX4. Not that the skid plates are all that great anyway but they are better than nothing. fwiw.

FX4...Lariats are nice...but looks too luxurious for me. I still want a truck feeling.

Both are pimp, but the FX4 is my choice and my ride!

I have to agree with ZManF150.....I would have liked to have all of the creature comforts of the Lariat and would have happily paid extra for them, but I can't stand leather. I love my FX4.

That is why you need better bumpers like ranch hand or something. Or better yet don't take a $40K truck off road get a used $10K or less jeep to beat up and use the ford to tow it.

Lariat is the only way to go. Best resale value, nicest looking, pimped out big time....don't settle for less!

as those things wouldn't be a problem for the Lariat either.

I just can't stand the FX4 instrument cluster and how much the ride differs for what your getting performance wise out of it. But to each his own..theres something out there for everyone.

Well I guess I may as well give you my .02 cents. We all know that the FX4 is the best truck out there. Everyone who thought they were cool and got the Lariat are just mad now and dont want to admit it.(cough cough Dzervit cough cough)...So if you want to be happy get the FX4

Anyway to address some things brought up here... I dont know what the comment about plastic painted bumpers means but my bumpers are metal, they are not full of rock chips or anything and the paint is holding up fine 25,000 miles later. The message center and all that crazy stuff, well it didnt impress me enough to make me buy the Lariat. I know that when my fuel light comes on I have 30 miles to go to be safe and if I had to I could squeeze a few more but have never had to get the close. The leather issue...the Lariat does have more leather surfaces than the FX4 has, but I have to tell you that Ive had more than one compliment on my seats on how they are some of the best leather seats some people have seen. So I dont consider that to be an issue. As for the homelink, you can get that aftermarket if you so choose. Someone here just got it. I personally like to install my own stereo system, so I ordered the bottom of the line stereo and upgraded. Therefore I cant comment on the audiophile, but have heard nothing but good things from others. I think the dash looks better on the FX4 and I absolutely cannot stand that fake wood in the Lariat. My truck is a year old and was built back in sept/oct 03 and at that time I was told the offroad shocks were made by Rancho. When I compared to the Lariat my truck sits higher. But I dont think thats the norm, some trucks seem to sit different for whatever reason. But as was mentioned, you will probably do a leveling kit in the front anyway. As soon as I get off my but my kit is going in. All I can say is this...I love my FX4 and knew from the first day I ever seen one that thats what I was getting. I love the yellow, the black leather seats, the flow thru center console, my power rear slider, overhead rails and 18'wheels. I say this...drive them both, really look at all the options and differences, drive them again, see if you really need offroad shocks or do you need more leather in your seats. Take all that into serious consideration and then go buy yourself your new FX4!!!

Just go with the looks you like....

Both are good trucks, just a slight difference in looks, inside and out. And a few features.

It's whats in the heart of the truck that counts...Just hurry up before the war breaks out between the two groups.

FX4

Lariat

Im going to stick with my Lariat since I hate riding on pogo sticks without sitting up on at least 35s. Anyways if your that concerned about the offroad shocks you'd be putting on a lift more than likely which replaces the shocks? So why? Personal preference.

but Im still sticking with my Lariat.

We are going with the FX4.
I just like the look better.
We like the grill, exterior color, and interior better than the Lariat.
The Lariat is too refined, it would be nice to have the passenger power seat, but the rest of it I can live without.

Thanks for the input.
