My 2nd 2004 FX4 after buy back

Well this one is a Job #2 Screw this time.

Throttle response is much better. I really like this truck better than my Scab I had. My gas mileage is even better right from the start. I test drove the truck for about 60 miles to make sure it was vibe free which it was. I drove it to Massachusettes from Maryland over the New Year with a big grin on my face.

I only have one problem......I now have the VIBE again between 40 and 60. I am almost embarresed to admitt it after I got a second chance through the DSB. I can't blame anyone but myself now. I'm 0 for 2.

I won't stress over it though, or go through a long TSB process or the DSB. I will probably give the dealer a couple of chances to fix it. If it dosn't work I will find a specialty shop to pin point the cause. I see more than a few trucks are being fixed, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I still drive it with a grin even with the vibe.

If you have to spend money on it, start with a new set of tires. GOOD tires. Then sell your OEM tires to help pay for your good tires. Let somebody else ride on those crappy tires that cause your truck to vibrate.
Letting the dealer swap the original tires for another set of crappy tires may or may not help. But your time is worth something. I'd just spring for the Michelins if I were you ($800 for Michelin Cross Terrains on my truck last month).

There are some tests to perform to narrow it down before I spend any $$$$. I think it is the driveshaft. There is a truck shop that can balance it in my area. If I have to go that route.

I did get the audiofile system this time, if I keep it cranked with all that bass I don't notice any vibe

Good luck man, that really sucks. It isn't your fault, you test drove it, but if I was you I wouldn't be hitting Vegas anytime soon. Bad luck!

tjaas,

Sorry to hear about your new truck. That's why I got a 2005. I think they did something in the 05's to correct the issue.

good luck.

It must really suck to have 2 trucks with this problem when so many of us do not. I'm not trying to be an a$$ with that comment.. it's just that you must have some bad luck.

Hi Guys I copied this from another thread I posted. 2005's are not fixed with the nibble thing for sure.

My truck with stock tires and rims did not shake. Wheels and tires RF at 15# and under...This is what these trucks need to keep the front end nibble down....Funny thing I bought aftermarket tires and rims. American made rims that have no run out. Tires that ride and handle like a dream come true. They RF at 18-20 way under industry standards (25-30) but I get a nibble at 65-70....Ford comes out and says they will warranty our truck tires (stock) up to 3 years-36000 mi from 12000-1 year!
Seem to me there is a definite problem with the suspension. Ford knows this! I have put after market wheels and tires on a dozen trucks and never had a pia like this....I took my buddies non shaking 05 and installed my wheels......Same thing! Nut that I am I had one of my stock tires put a bit out of balance 20# on a rf balancer. Yep same nibble!
It is small but anoying and I will do none of the future mods I had planed until it is fixed or I sell it.
What is all these truck owners going to do when they replace thier tires and they spec out to the manufactures numbers but not fords.
I know I can go back to my stock tires but this should have been told to me before I bought it and of course at the time nobody knew....
Forgot to add this...Installed my non shaking set of tires on the 04 with the one front wheel at 20# and it had the nibble at 65!

hovbuild,

Looks to me as if that guy had some tire issues. Flat spots and just tire issues in general can cause nibble. To me this particular issue could have probably been solved with the tires being road force balanced.

I tried a test this weeked to see if it might be my drive shaft.

I jacked up the rear set it down on 2 jack stands, chalked the front wheels ( also aimed truck straight down my driveway just in case ) I started it up and ran it up to 60 mph.......no vibe at in seat or floor. So from what I have read that should rule out the driveshaft.

Also I do not have any steering nibble.

You guy's are right, I do have some bad luck at least in this situation.

They were all Road forced balanced. RF= road force ballanced..The numbers is the spec they (hunter) uses. I was there at the machine every time they were balanced...This was my truck and as stated the 05 still nibbled..Hope this helps.
Before any balancing was done I drove the truck for 20 miles so flat spotting would not be an issue since it can due to how a road force balancer works.....If you go and balance the tires with a flat spot on them you will get an inaccurate reading on these machines.......I did all the testing myself and tried to do it as controlled as I could.....This is not a tire problem!!!!! It is a suspension problem......
I have done some Reading on the new 06 Lincoln coming out this year and they will use the 150 frame and "most" of it's suspension....They will use a new body spacer through out the truck. Hummmmm Maybe ford had the fix and balancung tires is way cheaper that installing new suspension parts.....It is just a thought! :O)

I guess the body spacer is the new body mounts referenced in the new TSB's????

Well I spoke the the Sale Mgr. today and explained how this truck is doing the same thing that my last 2004 did that Ford bought back and that I did not want to go through that again. He understood and said he at least had to make sure it was not something minor before he makes any phone calls.

So tomorrow morn. I'm getting the tires RF Balanced.

The service guy didn't seem to happy to do anything with the truck though. They have had a lot of the 04's in for this with no 100% fix he said, they have just been able to make it better.

He also said he has not seen any 05's in for the vibe.

I've had the truck for 13 days, vibe started at about 250 miles

Glad I saw this.

I am waiting on my refund check from Ford. I was headed for a 250, then my buddy started talking to me about rebates, blah, blah,... SO I was thinking about the 150 again.

But as I can see, get me once, shame on you. Get me twice, shame on me.

I'll give them awhile to work all of the bugs out.
