Pulled out a bus.
Pulled out a bus.
So we had a pretty good blizzard today in Winnipeg and i was sitting around with some friends and figured we should go look for people who were stuck and pull them out with my f-150. So off we went driving around and withing a few minits found an old married couple with a stuck van. Pulled them out and went on our way. Then we spotted the motherload. One of Winnipeg's transit buses had slid its butt end off onto the shoulder and a little bit into the ditch. We joked about pulling it out and then figured what could it hurt to try. When we went up the bus the driver said that someone in a truck had already tried but that we could try anyways. As I hooked up my new 18000 pound tow straw that i got for christmas a guy in a chevy pulled up and asked if i could help too. I sorta wanted to try it by myself but dident want to turn him away in case i couldent do it. So he hooked up to the front of my truck. We stopped the traffic for a bit, gave it a bit-o-gas and the bus came out like it was slidding on butter. One of the many spectators watching us came up to me and said he was glad to see a ford pulling the bus out (i do have to give some credit to the chev though) and that he worked at a ford dealership. i guess he will have a good story to tell when he's trying to sell one of these trucks now.
Cool story, Serge! As a fellow 'pegger I've found myself doing the same thing last night on my way home from work (not pulling buses but other vehicles). A 20 minute drive took nearly 3 hours! The only thing I find is that because you own a 4x4 EVERYBODY expects your help when they get stuck. If it's something beyond thier control I'll try to help, but I'm not so eager when someone ends up in trouble because they were stupid.
An example was a woman who tried to drive her car from the parking lot at my work across an open field to the lot at a Toys R Us beside us. She of course got stuck, and then wanted me to help her get out. I told her to call a tow truck, I asked her if it was too easy to drive on the street. Stupid! I did pull an older couple (60's I'm guessing) from the ditch. Somebody in a car cut them off and forced them to skid into the ditch (happened right in front of me). They were driving an '03 GMC Sierra, hooked the tow rope, put in 4 low and pulled 'em out easy as pie!
I love my truck!

I agree about the stupid people. If soneone goes in the ditch because they are driving stupid, I will NOT stop to pull them out. But, if someone goes in due to no fault of their own or one of these "stupid people", then I will definitely stop and offer to pull them out. So far, I have not had a chance to pull anyone out with my 04, but have pulled several cars/trucks out with my 02 and 97 that I had previously. From these posts, I'm actually looking forward to us getting a lot of snow so that I have an opportunity to test this out.
