Flapping noise inside Pillar???

I have a 2004 Lariat SuperCrew w/18k and have noticed on windy days (since new) driving at normal highway speeds, I hear a noise in the drivers side window pillar that sounds like something is flapping around inside the pillar. It sounds as if a wire harness or something loose is flapping around. When I slow down to 50 or less, I typically don't hear it. It definitely sounds like it is coming from inside the pillar. Anyone else heard this? Thanks.

Yup, I've the same noise @ hwy speeds. First I thought it was my wiper cowl but that's all secure. I've looked in the engine bay & in that wheel well & can't find a damn thing loose. Dunno what the hell it is.

It's probably a piece of the sound deadener flapping around inside the door. I had that problem with my 2004 in the rear doors of the supercab. I ended up pulling the panel off to get the pieces out, and to remove any pieces that were about to break off. Once it warms up again, I plan to replace it with some Dynamat instead. Still quiet, but looking to improve the performance of my stereo install.

I thought I had that or a noise in my dash but found out it was not by accident. I found the noise was the little black plastic grille just in front of the windshield hitting the windshield. I noticed that it varied, depending on speed, wind direction and temperature.

Thanks for your reply but that is not my issue. I've already removed the cowling and tried it, and the noise is still there. It is definitely coming from the drivers side pillar close to the area where the "Hang on for dear life" handle, is mounted on the pillar.

Oh, that's called the 'Oh Chit' handle! I learned that from a buddy many years ago in his VW Bug. It's exactly what you holler as you grab it while the driver is making some testosterone-induced maneuver whereby testing the limits of the vehicle's abilities as well as your bladder.

I was recently at my Ford dealer for a wind noise problem that turned out to be a leak 10" each side of the top of the windshield. This is not to be confused with the window pillar wind noise problem which is a distinct issue. The service tech said Ford has a known fix for this problem. Since I don't have the pillar issue, I didn't get into specifics nor did I ask if a TSB or SSM exists. However, the tech said they fix it by ordering new replacement molding (from Ford) on the outside of the windshield along the pillar. Apparently there is a clamp in the molding that easily breaks thus causing the noise. For further specifics, here is the number to the Ford dealer where I purchased my truck; ask for Reg in Service. Hope this helps! Link Ford Rice Lake WI (877) 505-1900.
