linkage noise?

this morning i noticed i would get a little noise around the floor shifter area when putting the brake petal down...almost like a relay sound. it does the same thing no matter how hard or soft i push the brake pedal. it only will do it while in neutral and putting my foot on the brake pedal to put into gear....will not do it again just braking. am i hearing things or anyone else had this? just want to make sure nothing is wrong or going wrong. i only have 3200 miles on the truck i have had for 3 mos now. it is an 04 fx4 if that matters. thanks guys.

this is your brake/park interlock. It is the little switch that is connected to your brake pedal that prevents you from shifting gears without pressing the brake pedal. Totally normal, thank kids in unattended cars and stupid people for that little 'safety' feature that can tend to be a pain in the butt sometimes. Surprised you didn't notice it sooner...

Inbred is right. After disecting my shifter for no apparent reason...ughmm, i saw the small solenoid that engages/disengages when you hit the brake pedal. If you pull off your trim piece that surrounds the shifter there is a small white button there that you can push to duplicate the solenoid actuation. I'm guessing for servicing purposes. However, I never noticed that mine was loud enough to hear all the time. You may keep an eye on it. JP
