bed extender ?

I just bought a bed extender and I was curious if you are able to get the extender out without having the tailgate open. Or can you only remove the extender when the tailgate is open. Any help would be appreciated.

u gotta have the tailgate open and the extender swung out. works like that so that if u lock your tailgate shut someone cant steal it that easy.

It can be taken out with out of the tailgate with it being open, theres away to lock it in place so no one can pull it out. I think I saw it on one of the forms or look up how to lock the bed extender on the net.

Do a search within the SUPERCREW forum... several have devised ways to secure the extender so that it cannot be removed without your consent.

If you look at the extender there are four black plastic braces that hold the bars in place. You can buy two more of those from Ford and assemble them on the ends close to the clips. Then the extender can not be tilted and the clips unhooked. Like RockPick says there is a old thread that lists the part numbers.
