undercoating?
undercoating?
Anybody have their new trucks undercoated? I live on a gravel chip road and when I get out on the main roads ,gravel stuck in the tires fly out and hit the under fenders and sound like there doing damage to the paint..
I got my XLT done when it was brand new at Zeibart (undercoating and rustproofing). They did a good job and the undercoating is somewhat pliable, so I think it will protect against rock chips underneath. And since I plan on keeping this truck for a long time, the rustproofing can't hurt here in the rust-belt. The undercoating also made it a bit quieter running down the road. If you undercoat yours, I would recomment either getting it done professionally, or if you want to do it yourself...getting some good quality undercoating at an auto body place or from Eastwood. Definitely stay away from the normal spray on junk they sell at Wally World and places like that. If you don't plan on keeping it all that long (< 5 years), then I would skip it.
Yes it does sound like you are sand or rock blasting off the paint in the wheel wells. I just had my truck Ziebarted, rust proofing and undercoat. It does help dampen the noise and should stop the damage to the paint. Someone made a comment in a post a while back about having Rhino liner sprayed in the wheel well. There has also been several other types of spray in bed liners mentioned in other forms. The rhino take a while to harden up to its maximum stuffness so you might want to check out one of the other products.

The price varies depending on vehicle and where you live. I live in the Washington DC area and paid $399 to have mine done. They sprayed rust proofing inside the doors, rocker panels, inner fender seams, and tailgate. They sprayed the whole underside with the sound-absorbing undercoating. I think the Ziebarts are independently owned/operated, so you may be able to find a range of prices. I know they have specials quite frequently at the one I used.
Hope this helps!
