Ok, I've been reading some posts of guys changing out gears after upsizing tires. My question to you is, I went from 255/65/17's to 285/55/20's. the new tire wheel combo is only 2" bigger in circumferance. The truck seems to drive fine but do I need to do anything gearing wise? My speedo does not feel off, if so it's only a mile or two per. Also, if so, is this an expensive project? My truck is an 04 scab 2 wd and I have no idea what my current gearing is.
Thanks for all and any advise

I would say that if they are only 2 inches bigger, you could probably get away with not changing your gears. Most odometers from the factory actually read 1-2mph fast anyway. So, putting 2" taller tires on it should make it read about 2mph slower than you are actually going. You could probably live with that.
With that said, steeper gears can still help....even if you don't increase tire size. It will be quicker with new gears, but it can be pricey. Remember to not opt for cheaper brand gears...you get what you pay for. And I would take it to a 4x4 shop that has experience swapping them out...again, it could cost some $$ but you will be confident you're not going to have to shell out more later to fix a crappy job done by inexperienced mechanics.
At least with a 2WD, you will only have one set to change if you decide to do so. But like I said, you should probably be ok with your new tires...and there may be other things you would rather spend your money on (tuner, exhaust, etc.)
Good Luck!

it depends on what you want .
your gearing will be "taller" now. if it is highway or interstate driving you do, you may like it more now then before. if you'r doing dirt road crawling or 1/4 mile drags your hateing it.
