Question How to keep trip instead of odo displayed?

On the FX4, it has a mini-computer read out, it seems to randomly go back to displaying the total truck miles instead of the trip miles.

How can I make show the trip miles each time I use the truck?

Also, is it just mine that barely readable, the LCD read out is very poor, like an old fashioned digital watch.

I reckon I'll have to look at a co-worker's FX4; on my Lariat, it stays put wherever I put the trip computer, be it on DTE, trip, or fuel economy.

Mine stays where ever I put it also.

My read out is very easy to read too.

Jinjimbob, I have the FX4 screw, and it will reset to the odometer when I turn the truck off and start it up. I too wish that it would stay on the trip miles too.

mine stays put while the truck is on, but whenever the truck is turned off it reverts back to total mileage.

Thanks, thats exactly what happens to mine. Never had any vehicle that reverted back to the odo before.

Think there might be a bug?

I think it's in the design. Same as overdrive coming back on after the truck is restarted.

Somtimes mine stays on trip after shutting down and other times it reverts back to odometer on my XLT.

Guess I'm kinda lucky

Guess I'm kinda lucky. My STX displays both total miles and trip miles.

Aw geeeez, wish I had a tach!

Hi, RexaFORD, So put one in. Go to E-bay, put in a FX4 or LXT cluster. Have the mileage set by the vendor (don't buy from one that can't, unless you want to spend an extra 75 bucks plus shipping to have it set).
Put it in your self. Takes about twenty minutes, five for disconnectiong and reconnecting the battery. Then drive it to the dealership and pay 60-85 to have it programmed in.

Couldn't be easier, and with luck will cost about 185-200. Sure, it's a lot, but boy does that FX4 dash look sharp!

OT--

ChrisAdams, you wouldn't happen to be a Chris Adams that went to Penn State back in '96 or so, would you? You have no location info in your profile for me to guess. Yes, it's a rather common name, but stranger things have happened...

Yea, I've been thinkin' along those lines. Before I buy the instrument cluster I'd want to have the complete detailed procedure for reprogramming. I don't have a lot of confidence in my local dealer having the know how to do it. Can you line me up with the procedure.
