I guess I can add another problem with the 04 to my list.

When in 4H I have about 10 feet of room to backup before the wheels lock up on me. It gradually gets stiffer over the 10 feet until its too stiff to move.

WTF

I've had some suggestions about flushing the t-case and refilling.

But what's "the dreaded transfer case syndrome"?

Tonight, yes. But it does it if the wheel is centered.

When do you shift into 4 hi? or dose this occur when your all ready in 4 hi and than have to back up. I can drive all day in revearse with my f-150 4x4.

Sitting at a stop and throw it into 4H. Then throw it in reverse.

drive forward for a bit after switching so the system can engage. It's designed for the most part to engage on the fly while driving forward. Try that, then see if it binds. If it still does, get to the dealer ASAP.
