me again... x-plan vs. invoice
me again... x-plan vs. invoice
Hey there,
Sorry for the continuing questions of price. I've been to see a dealer, another planned for next week and have contacted several others. Anyway, I found out that for the most part x-plan prices are about $400 over invoice for a $40,000 MSRP truck. A-plan is $1000 less than invoice. Every dealer I have talked to said the lowest they would go was $500 over invoice. This is $100 more than x-plan. Since they get like $1700 dealer rebate for using x-plan wouldn't they ant to give up a few og those when needed and then split the rebate? This would get x-plan almost to A-plan? Is it possible to get a truck at invoice or lower without one of these plans? Has anyone been able to do that?
To recap... Is $500 over invoice without a "plan" or rebates or etc... the best I can do as a starting price?
Thanks for a great forum and for great advice. you guys are pretty great!!!!!

Hey everyone... its my virgin post.
I found this site awhile ago but never registered and now here I am. I love the F150 and someday I'll convince my wife to spend some of her allowance that I give her on one.
So...
$500 over invoice before rebates is normal for CA.
Too much demand form what I can see

Most dealers don't want cash buys. They usually hold some points on the bank financing too.
Wasting the salesman time. Sure you're going to make some mad. Good experienced salesmen know what you're doing and won't get trapped in it. They're not going to want to work for nothing.
By the way....do you like to work for free??? Then why is it OK for a salesman to work for free???
Do you eat in a resturant and not tip or drink at the bar and not tip???

You guys are missing my point... IS $500 over invoice the best I can do before rebates, etccc???
I don't want to ruin a saleman's income but I, being a single income teacher with a stay at home wife and two kids needs to make sure that what I get is hte lowest I can get.
If I have to pay 35,000 for a Lariat out the door then fine but if I can get one for less then I'd like to know how.

I got my 05 S-crew for $300 over invoice, and I got $1500 rebate and a $500 Ford financing rebate. I think it all depends on the dealer. I shopped for a long until I found the right truck at the right price. I walked away from plenty of dealers too.

Moss Motors in Riverside CA.....don't go there
Some large dealers can still get away with ripping people off. They figure if you don't buy it, someone else that doesn't know anything about buying vehicles certainly will. Now that we all can look up the invoice price of a vehicle, we can make an informed decision about what is a good price to pay.
In my case, I consider the owner of the Ford Dealership, the parts guys, several of the salesmen, and and service technicians to be good friends. I can walk into the owners office and plop down in front of his desk and just shoot the breeze with him. When my truck needs to go to the shop for something, I drive it to the salesman's house, toss him the keys, and he drives it 30 miles to work the next day, and returns it to me that evening. When I can't make up my mind which bug deflector I want to buy, the parts guy orders both styles and sends them home with me. The next weekend, I return the one I don't use and then pay him for the one that I installed on the truck. I can walk into the service bays and chew the fat with the service techs, even if they aren't working on my vehicles.
Now all that gibberish above may not be important to a lot of people, but to me, that is how a dealership should be run, and that is why I keep going back..... 6 trucks in the past 8 years. And for all of those reasons mentioned above, I am perfectly content at paying $500 over invoice on all of the vehicles that I've purchased form them. They all have to earn a good living too, and the dealer has to make a few $$ to keep the good employees to provide you with good service.
When I ordered my 2004, in Nov. 2003 and took delivery in Feb 2004, Ford did not offer any incentives of any type. I ordered the truck at the usual 500 over invoice price. I also joined the American Quarter Horse Association, (cost $40 bucks). After being a member for 30 days, you are eligible for $500 off of the cost of a Ford vehicle. Well that just makes good sense, spend $40 bucks to save $500!!!!
By doing that, the price of the truck was brought to down to dealer invoice. The day I picked the truck up, I was sitting with the owner of the dealership while he was finishing up the paperwork to complete the transaction. He was almost done, and then he paused, looked up and said, "I've been saving something for you" He reached in his desk drawer and pulled out a coupon good for another $500 bucks off of the price of the truck. NOW IS THAT IS A GREAT CAR DEALER OR WHAT??? You can bet that I will continue buying vehicles from this Dealer as long as they continue the same business practices.
The dealer still made a 500 bucks over invoice by sitting at his desk for less than 2 hours worth of work, plus, he got 4-1/2 % of the sticker price back from Ford (dealer hold-back). The $500 from the AQHA and the $500 coupon that he gave me was money out of FoMoCo pocket, not the dealers.
Now after all of that rattling on, I guess my point was: find a good dealer, and stick with them, work with them. I feel $100 to $500 over invoice is a fair deal. It is even better if there are rebates available. Join up with some organization that is a "partner" with Ford. (It's worth $500 bucks in your pocket)
As far as X plan vs invoice goes..... it's a toss up. With X plan there is absolutely no debate over the price. Some special incentives" are not allowed with X plan, I think the $500 Ford Partner rebate is one of them, I'm not sure though. I do believe all regular rebates can be applied. If you find the right dealer, pay a few bucks over invoice and take advantage of Fords rebates and Ford Partner rebates, you may do better than X plan price.

First thing to remember is that the factory rebates are yours not the dealer. I just bought a Tahoe last month. Well I bought two Tahoe's last month, because of the first one being totaled after 34 miles. I agree that the dealer needs to make money. I just don't want him making all of it on me.
From www.kbb.com I know what the dealer invoice is for the vehicle I’m buying. $500 over invoice should be a free deal for him. That's before any rebates. I always give my local dealer the first shot at it and the final shot. The sales manager knows I'm going to try and give him my business. So far he's always matched the price. He always tells me I really making him work for my business. I tell him if anyone could do it, he wouldn't make so much money.
While working here in California, I check the price at a few dealers here. Two of those dealers stopped talking to me when I told them I had the dealers invoice on the vehicle. One even told me, that if I used my cell phone to check a price he would walk away. I told each one thank you, and drove to the next dealer.
I always work out a cash price before talking any trade in or finance. Each time I've compaired the financing, it was better for my to take the rebates and use my bank or credit union for financing.
