Just for reference sake, the stock OEM oil pressure sender will read anything above 5psi to be normal. The gauge will only drop if it reads lower than 5psi. Its very easy to add a mechanical oil pressure gauge at the stock sender location, with a brass T fitting.

I wouldn't really worry about it, unless you are road racing, and watching oil pressure as a result of hard turns.

Is it the sender that causes this reading, or the PCM?
If it is the sender, could one that is more than an on/off type unit be swapped in?

The type of sender that is on our trucks, is basically an on-off switch. If it detects more than 5psi, its signal is on. Less, its off. That's the way I interpret it. Back in the Mustang/Lightning days, I always relied on Autometer gauges, because they actually work.

I completely agree. I had a remote oil filter line come loose on my Mustang I had, and dumped all 6qts of oil in a matter of a few short seconds. My immediate reaction of pulling over and shutting down (considering I was running 75mph in Cali at 1am or something) was very quick, but if it hadn't been for my mechanical oil pressure gauge, I hate to see how long it would have taken for the stock gauge to register the difference. By the time I was slowing down and pulling over, I already had ZERO oil pressure, and basically zero oil...yet my stock gauge showed everything peachy keen. Can't tell you how glad I am that I added the mech. oil gauge and saw it!
