Guys,

Just a quick update. A while ago when I first ran into this problem, I sent BF Goodrich a letter describing the problem, my service techs comments, along with a copy of Fords TSB. I got a call from a BF Goodrich technician yesterday. He re-iterated that BFG doesn’t recognize a Hunter Road Force value as a tire criterion, no one does. He did say that BFG considers greater than .040” of radial run-out to be excessive, but there’s very few tire dealers that can measure run-out.

When I asked him what he thought of Fords solution (TSB T42507) he said it looked to him as if the truck is extremely sensitive to tires. He also commented that TSB T42507 is not a standard procedure for mounting tire/wheel assemblies to a truck.

OK, so now I’ve heard back from:

BF Goodrich
Cooper
Firstone/Bridgestone
Sears
And Wal-Mart

No one seems to think that indexing wheels to hubs is “normal” or a standard practice.

Chuck R,

FYI, I just went through all this with my dealership. They where concentrating on TSB 4-25-7 for the nibble. "Supposedly I had two BFG tires that where RFed at 38 and 40. They did replace them per the new Ford warranty on the tires. They also put the vibration dampner on the truck which IMHO does absolutely nothing but add more weight to the truck. They did not put on a vibration analyzer per the TSB or test it after putting on the new tires. (I think I may be just lucky because these trucks are picky when it comes to vibration)

The good news is I am cautiously optimistic the nibble is gone. (we will see for now because it didn't start till I had over 1000 miles on it) The vibration is another matter. The FSE is supposed to road test mine next week. The Service Manager admitted that Ford is aware of the problem and they are still working on a fix. I have a post at the end of the "back to the vibration" thread.

I was not getting the correct answer from the Service writer and was told by the salesman that sold me the truck to go directly to the service manager. If you do not get the correct answer or in my case "pure bs" then I would keep working your way up the chain. If you get to the owner and nothing gets resolved, go to another dealership....

Im scared..

Imagine if Ford was forced to recall all of the 04-05s..that would hit them harder than ever. If this new body mount actually works they should just set all of us with one and be done and over with this, because with all the people with these trucks they could have a HUGE cival suit on their hands once the warranty's run out and I know I'll be a part of it if Ford doesn't hold to their product like they should but we all know they are too a car company and bottom line is profit for them, not a smile on the customer's face when their vibe is gone..

I picked up my truck with four new tires and a dampening kit last night. I was not charged for a single thing. No tire proration or anything. When I got home, I had the tire warranty extension letter in my mailbox.

Due to the snow, I have not had a chance to bring it up to 70 on the interstate, soon as I do I'll post results.

An odd thing, while the tech was out test driving he found the following, his words from the RO, not mine....

"...Mounted four new tires and reassembled and roadtested, found severe vibration, ran truck on lift found driverside rear tire not turning, removed wheel and inspected brake system, e-brake OK, removed caliper and inspected, found caliper piston broken and binding pad against rotor."

I now have a new caliper and pads, but doesn't that seem a little odd?
