2004 F-150 Vs. Deer @ 50 MPH
#16
Glad you are okay, I hit a deer last summer coming back from yellowstone in my 02 F-250 SD, was on cruise at 72 mph, didn't have time to even touch the brakes. It sounded like major damage and sent the deer flying over a ditch and railroad tracks, at least 70 to 80 foot. I stoped, got out and found only the bumper bent in about 1/2 inch. I got lucky but the deer didn't. I hope my F-150 holds up as well.

Sorry to see your truck that way but now there is one less for me to dodge on RT. 235 every day.
We were on Rt. 2 heading to Annapolis for some "big city" shopping. Banged the deer just north of Friendship Rd.
Anne Arundel Sheriff managed to hit the deer with one shot (from about 3 feet away). I kinda wish I was carrying, but with the restrictive gun laws here there is no way to get a permit (unless you own a bank or something).
This was the second deer I have hit in the last 5 years. I hope it isn't a pattern! Last one was in early December also. Luckily I was only ~4 miles from home since the car was barely drivable after the hit (I was only going about 35 when I hit that one).

If you've never eaten a road killed deer, don't. Instead of a tiny area of damaged meat from a hunted deer, a car/truck impact usually turns the entire deer into a giant bruise. The term is 'bloodshot'. It's a shame to let it go to waste, best to donate it to someone who really needs the food as it won't be the best table fare. Most folks unaccustomed to deer meat say they don't like it after eating roadkill. That's why.

Glad everyone was okay. A truck can be replaced family can't. I have seen deer come through the windshield on cars! A car like a Focus or Intrepid the deer would go right through the windshield. I tell people that full size trucks are the safest vehicles around.
This sounds like a good time to get a billet grill and some other goodies from the insurance company!
Good luck with the repair.

I have a few friends that are in the insurance business and they have told me in the past don't serve for animals on the road. Cause appartently if you put it in the ditch and have no proof of a animal your insurance will go up. Then again I am talking about small animals here not a Moose or Elk. If you hit something like a deer you can prove that it was not your fault. Due to the hair left by the animal.
