Glad you are okay, I hit a deer last summer coming back from yellowstone in my 02 F-250 SD, was on cruise at 72 mph, didn't have time to even touch the brakes. It sounded like major damage and sent the deer flying over a ditch and railroad tracks, at least 70 to 80 foot. I stoped, got out and found only the bumper bent in about 1/2 inch. I got lucky but the deer didn't. I hope my F-150 holds up as well.

Sorry to see your truck that way but now there is one less for me to dodge on RT. 235 every day.
RAYJAY25 - You got that right - dodging cars on Rt. 235 was one of the reasons I upgraded to the F-150. I used to drive a Supra. I couldn't see past the car in front of me at all. I hated feeling blind to what was coming up ahead. Don't have that problem now!

We were on Rt. 2 heading to Annapolis for some "big city" shopping. Banged the deer just north of Friendship Rd.

Anne Arundel Sheriff managed to hit the deer with one shot (from about 3 feet away). I kinda wish I was carrying, but with the restrictive gun laws here there is no way to get a permit (unless you own a bank or something).

This was the second deer I have hit in the last 5 years. I hope it isn't a pattern! Last one was in early December also. Luckily I was only ~4 miles from home since the car was barely drivable after the hit (I was only going about 35 when I hit that one).

RAYJAY25,

My truck is at Two Guys Auto Body on Rt. 235. I stopped by yesterday, and they have the bumper/facia/grill removed. Looks kinda naked...

At least all the repairs are bolt-on.

Most folks unaccustomed to deer meat say they don't like it after eating roadkill. That's why.
I have eaten road kill deer a couple times ($h!t bag wasn't busted), never noticed a difference. Maybe got lucky

Glad everyone was okay. A truck can be replaced family can't. I have seen deer come through the windshield on cars! A car like a Focus or Intrepid the deer would go right through the windshield. I tell people that full size trucks are the safest vehicles around.

This sounds like a good time to get a billet grill and some other goodies from the insurance company!

Good luck with the repair.

There was an article in my local newspaper recently that stated 4000 vehicle/animal collisions occur every day in the US with 98% of them involving deer. I didn't think it was true when I read it, but now I think it may be. Good job keeping that thing straight and in your lane!!

When you hit another animal on the road and its not your fault, do the insurances raise your rates? Or do they only do this after you hit a few of them?

You should see the moose through the car pictures, they're crazy.

If you hit a deer it is usaully under comprehensive. You can take out an insurance policy for Collision, Fire, theft, and comprehensive. I don't believe your insurance will go up because it was an act of god (I believe that is what comprehensive is).

If something hits your truck and it isn't your fault it is comp. So if a deer "hits your truck" it is comp. Technically if YOU hit the deer, it is collision which can make your insurance go up. It all depends on how your adjuster writes it up.

I have a few friends that are in the insurance business and they have told me in the past don't serve for animals on the road. Cause appartently if you put it in the ditch and have no proof of a animal your insurance will go up. Then again I am talking about small animals here not a Moose or Elk. If you hit something like a deer you can prove that it was not your fault. Due to the hair left by the animal.
