Question Supercab rear door question

Just wondering if anybody else with a supercab has had this problem.

When I close the rear doors, with a good bang to make sure they're fully latched, they will tend to occasionally pop back a click on the latch. All modern door latches are designed to catch in two stages to keep them secure. The bottom latch, on the passenger side mostly, will seem to pull back one click after a bit of driving causing a heck of a rattle.

Most times it forces me to pull over and re-close the door to stop the noise.
Anybody else have this? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

My children didn't close the door all the way one time and it rained that night and got the inside of the truck wet to include the carpet. I had to disassemble the truck a little to get all of the water out.

Ever since then I have the children make sure it is latched.

I haven't had it come open after it is latched like your problem.

I seem to have the opposite problem, if I don't slam my door shut it doesn't totally latch cause the most annoying sound ever while driving down the highway. I just give it a good slam and they latch tight.

Im in the same boat as brchaney. I have not had a problem closing it too hard yet. Sounds like a door alignment issue.

I usually get a slight sqeaking sound if I don't slam the rear doors hard enough. (both sides) I guess they just don't latch right if you baby them shut. I sometimes have to stop and re-shut the back door or the squeak drives me nuts since the truck is so quiet inside. I hate having to shut them so hard, but that's the only way. Hope this doesn't cause rattles in the future.

That's what I'm concerned about. I drive a fleet truck at work (1 ton) that is also driven by other people. Those doors are banged shut pretty hard sometimes, after about 2 or 3 years of use now the only way to close 'em tight is with a hard bang.

I don't want the same problem on my baby. You shouldn't have to slam the rears so hard to close them solid. They should double click shut with a simple push on the door.

I guess when I have some time I'll take her back and get my dealer to look at 'er.

No problems here. A firm, but not too hard swing and it's shut tight. I can even push it shut as long as I keep a good pressure on it as I shut it.

That is good to know, I think it's time to pay my dealer a visit.

Of course a Lariat has no issues. Ford puts extra effort into getting the Lariats right!

Also, apply the pressure near the top of the door as it seems that it is the top latch that doesn't catch quite right. This way you shouldn't have to push so hard.

Yea, what BigSherm said. You may have to have the dealer move in the adjustment. That top latch can be a tough one. The latches are plastic!

Bigsherm, I'm going to have to call your truck the transformer. You used to have the mild mannered Lariat with the Bull Bar and lights, now it's 6" taller + and more stuff!

The F-150 Scab that I have rented currently for my job has the EXACT problem (along with odd length tailgate cables and the infamous vibe/rear-end thunk).

I don't think your case is isolated.

That's good to know RP thanks! Time to do some investigating and see if there might be a recall or TSB in the works!

My 04 Lariat did the same thing. I didn't pay any real attention to it other than realizing the door squeeked a little.
Compaired to my old 93 Scab the 04 rattle was barely noticable. I thought the door panels would rattle off of the 93 F-150 every time I went down the freeway. (roads in my County suck)
I re-shut the driver side back door while pushing on the upper portion of the door frame and tadaa... No more rattle.

Thanks guys.

Hmm...the transformer....it does sound better than the money pit, which is what my g/f calls it.
