Problem with install on Ford nerf bars

I just got the 5 inch Ford oval tube chrome nerf bars today. Of course I was jonesing to put them on so I got home and started right away. I usually never break out the torque wrench unless working on race motors but I did this time just to be safe. So I installed everything per specs and the torque on the bolts that attaches the bar to the bracket says 22 lbs ft torque. I thought it was a little high since it goes into aluminum but thats the instructions so I did it.

And before getting to the torque it felt like it was starting to strip. So I stopped and called the number on the iinstruction sheet. It went to DeeZee.... Had to leave a message for the guy who handles the Ford stuff.

Anyone else have similar experience...? Non of the other bolts got anywhere near 22 ft lbs before I 'felt' they were tight so they got snug plus a little.

My torque wrench is in calibration so that isnt the issue....

Sure it wasn't 22 inch pounds? 22 foot pounds sounds way to much for that.

I thought the same thing..... I am ABSOLUTELY positive it says FT pounds... I thought the same thing. Thats why I looked again thinking I mis-read it.

I couldnt believe it was 22 ft pounds on aluminum when it was 22 ft lbs for the bolts holding the brackets on the truck... It didnt make sense.

Here is a scan of the instruction sheet. The torque setting in question is at the top.

Edited* Removed link to pic since another brother posted it smaller. Thanks!

Thats a very helpful response. I really appreciate it. That helps me with my issue very much. Thank you...!

Dumb ***....

The picture was scanned into Adobe Acrobat and there are no options to resize it.

no problems here

I just installed the same thing Friday on my truck.
Yes I had the same instruction sheet as you, but mine have steal inserts. I had no problem torquing mine to 22. You can feel the insert "pull" some at first but then once it 'sets' is was rock solid. Maybe you got a bad set? Or maybe I got a set that was damage and repiared with steal inserts?
Did all the bolts strip or just one?

Hope you get it fixed.

MS paint allows you to resize a jpg. file. If you look at the size of what you posted, its 23 megs. The poor guy on dialup might wait 30 minutes for that pic to load

Thanks for posting a smaller pic. I have removed mine. Although I dont think people can read the pic you posted I am sure the people that needed to read it read it.

Thanks jbone108...!

Sorry for the large pic guys. Like I said, Adobe Acrobat doesnt allow resize. At least in none of the options I found. So due to my impatience and need to get an answer right away I posted the large pic. Sorry again to all you dial up folks...!
