Question major differences between fx4 and stx??

no tachometer
no cruise control
manual 4wd
plastic floor
no auto headlights
no overhead storage
plastic steering wheel
fixed rear windows
manual mirrors

Anything else I might be missing that is really important? Opinions? I never really purchased a base model truck before, but the savings is substantial...

After looking at a few '04's I like the painted bumpers which means an STX or FX4.

you mean for the 4wd?

In anyones opinion does that get in the way much since it will have a bench/split seat?

stx = 4.6 liter w/ corresponding tranny and rear end
Power door locks and power windows NOT available
You can, however get cruise control
one advantage to STX is black vinyl floor instead of carpet. Can mop it if you like...
Also, cheaper cloth on the seats...
another one--17" wheels vs. 18" on FX4

No, He means the flow through console with the floor transmission shifter.
another stx feature is manual 4x4 floor shifter. It is not in my way, but don't plan on carrying 3 people on a 40-20-40 bench.

STX means "Stripped To Xtremes"

inbred (very happy STX owner)

I'll have to go lookat one then. I was looking at Fx4's this weekend, but other than the gauges and door handles and vents the interior looked pretty cheap. So, I was thinking that maybe I'd just get an STX since those come with the painted bumpers also.

I want an '04 because the '04's have the big $4k rebate on standard cabs, or $3.5K on supercabs plus yellow isn't available on '05's.

For example a couple of local dealers have yellow ones like what I want.

std cab stx 4.6L, $18,919 (3.55 ltd slip, carpet, fog lights)

super cab stx 4.6L, $21,394 (3.55 ltd slip, carpet)

super cab Fx4 5.4L, $25,073 (17" wheels small tires, deluxe mirrors, tube step bars)

super cab Fx4 5.4L, $26,657 (18" wheels and bigger tires, 6 disc cd, captains chairs)

prices are x plan price minus
$500 x plan rebate
$4000 reg cab and $3500 super cab rebate
$1000 finance with ford credit rebate

Basically what I'm thinking is the standard cab stx may be the best way to go for me, even though I'd rather have a crew cab or supercab and a 5.4 and 3.73's, etc...The price jump is just way too much for something that won't probably be driven much.

Okay, so the selector is dash mounted, but the hubs are manual?

When you guys say floor shifter are you saying that the shifter is located in the console when you upgrade to captains chairs?

You can't get the STX with the 5.4L and you can't get the FX4 with the 4.6L. Also I believe that LS and keyless entry is standard on the FX4 and optional on the STX.

if you do opt for an stx, try to get a 3.73 ratio if you can find one...mine is 3.55, but I plan on going to 4.10's with 33" tires. Quite a few stx pics in my gallery...

fx4 has electonic shift 4x4 on dash. STX has floor mounted 4x4 shifter (I prefer this over electronic actuators). No fords have manual hubs except for superdutys
