After doing mine as a learning experinence, I installed another one in a friends 01 f-250 diesel tonight. It worked like a charm after wiring it up. Only thing that sucks on the diesels, is the dang tach wire thats buried under everything in the firewall, and having to cross reference the wire colors since the instuctions are 02 and up. Only took 2 1/2 hours to do this time too I have to quit showing mine off I quess, so people quit asking me to install theres.

Hey Todd, you know that there is a tach wire you can catch right behind the fuse box right?? There is one there that is just a pigtail for test purposes that you can splice into. Much easier. If you ever need help call me, I can tell you some shortcuts to make it alot easier.

Hey Guys,

If you don't mind me butting in.. I have a few questions about remote start.

Is the unit(s) you are discussing a "Ford" remote start add-on? As in what I see on the Ford Accessories Web page etc.

I am interested in getting remote start... but really wanted something as "Ford OEM" as possible. Also hoped to keep the Keyfob as factory looking as possible. I assume this is not a simple module plug in... that tapping many wires in the harness would be necessary?

What model should I be looking for from Ford? (I have keyless entry, keypad etc.) And what price ballpark?

Thanks in advance for any info,

The one mentioned on this thread and most of the others I have seen lately are the Ford product. Made by Code Alarm.

They have three different levels of their systems.....

Bronze - Only Remote Start.
Silver - Remote start with keyless entry.
Gold - Remote start, keyless entry, and a alarm.

I just got the Gold unit and will have it installed this coming Friday. The remote looks like a factory unit. There are better alarms out there but I also wanted a more factory appearance and unlike the other alarms I have checked into this unit integrates with the keypad on your door. The other companies alarms do not as far as I have been told.

Parts were mid $200's. Install was $200. Plus I got a $50 credit for customer loyalty. So mine will be just over $400 installed. But some people say they have spent hundreds more than that so check with your dealer for parts cost and labor if you are not going to do it yourself.

You need the Unit itself (one of three listed above), plus you need the PATS bypass module.

Ford installed remote start / alarm systems are covered by your Ford vehicle warranty as well.

12 months 12000 miles if you out of warranty. 36/36000 if you are still in it. This was a big factor in my decision also. I have many friends with aftermarket systems whinning all the time how theres are not working very good after a year or so. I got around to doing some informal testing on mine yesterday. The book states 500ft range. Mine would start almost all the time upto 1200 ft with the truck not being in site and we got one start at 1800ft with a clear line of site on it. Im more then impressed with my gold package.

I'd like to see you guys figure it out, it's pretty easy copout to blame the module cuz a tech can't figure 0ut an install. Then take the working remote start to the dealer and rub it in their face as they refund your money!!!!!
